The park is designed so that children (and adults) can travel from station to station and get a total workout for the whole body. MOUNTAINVIEW MALL 526-7171 A new park opened last Wednesday in Midland, but it's got more than just your average park. The Bayview Fun and Run park has had careful planning and that caring, home-made touch added to it by two parents of the school it adjoins. Roland and Marja Kuerz- doerfer have two children at Bayview Public School, Andre and Tania. And Marja happened to be a member of the Bayview Parent and Guar- dian Auxiliary when the group came to a decision about a year ago to build a park out of the nearby fields. So they called Marja and "asked her to volunteer" to design a type of park that wouldn't just contain the everyday swings and stuff. It would be planned so that one could follow a route, from station to station, and exercise all the different muscles in the body. Definitely a park for the fitness-conscious student. So Marja visited parks in Wasaga Beach and Barrie that had similar concepts. They took pictures, took them home - and that's when Marja's husband Roland became involved. When it finally came time to do the actual physical labor, the couple had become deeply involv- ed in the project. They even went to the lumber yard in knee-deep snow in the middle of February and dug two 347 KING ST. MIDLAND 526-5001 pick-up. trucks full of lumber out themselves. Then Roland did all the sawing and fitting and painting - "we put a lot of hours into this," said Marja. "And we didn't do it the cheap way. It's not nailed - it's all notched and fitted. It will last many years," said Roland. But they didn't have to do it all themselves. A lot of the parents from the school came out for two "working-weekends,"' to | Unique park opens install all the equipment. And last Wednesday the park got its official in- auguration - appropriately on Canada's national fitness day. After the brief ceremony and ribbon- cutting (by the Kuerz- doerfer's daughter Tania), the park got a workout of its own. And now it's open - for students, and the com- munity, to enjoy. The park is behind Bayview Public School on Ottawa Street.
