Keegos win gold The Midland Y Keegos placed third out of ten teams last week at the Vic- tor Davis Long Course Pool in Guelph. The Keegos were com- peting in their first long course swim meet (olympic size pool) of the season. This time of year, most of the swim meets are long Meet winners cdurse meets as opposed to the usual short course (25 metres). Although a number of the regular record breakers put in good performances, all swimmers improved their times with Brent Lan- dry doing exceptionally well. Keegos enjoyed a very good meet, placing third overall. The meet served as a warm-up for some of the Keegos who participated in the National Youth Championships in Montreal on the weekend. Tykes romp to win Midland Gervan and Associates Tykes blew the cover off the ball and Coll- ingwood out of the park as they romped to a 20-2 win in York Simcoe Baseball Association regular season play last week at Little Lake Park. Midland scored three times in the first, five in both the third and fourth, two in the fifth and added five in the sixth, while Col- lingwood managed their two in the fourth frame. In the first inning, Mark Larmand doubled _ to centerfield to start things off. With Jess Eason on first by virtue of a base on balls, James Downs belted a three bagger to left, scor- ing Larmand and Eason. Mikey Mannapso cashed in Downs for the inning's third run with a base hit through shortstop. Downs reached first in the third inning on an er- ror to the shortstop and scampered to..third on another infield miscue. Vincent Leary cashed Downs on an aiiother error credited totthe first & Deacon and scored passed ball. Downs scored on Leary's infield out. Mannapso: singled to right and went to second on an error. Cote walked and Deacon singled home Mannapso. Cote scored on Larmand's round tripper. For the second inning in a row, Downs opened with a two bagger. Leary and Cote then walked to load the bases. Downs and Leary then scored on Paul Beauchamp's base hit. Page 18, Tuesday, June 2, Bill Brown opened the five run sixth with a base on balls and scored on yet another double off the bat of Downs. Leary received a free pass and both run- ners eventually scored on an error to the pitcher. Two more walks to Man- napso and Cote and a single off the bat of Beauchamp plated two more runs:to finally end the slaughter. Leary went the distance on the hill for Gervan and Associates to garner the victory. The team is showing more and more confidence each time out, working together as a team. category, Pat Brooks, who just turned 10, broke his brother's team and _ in- dividual regional record in the 400m free style. Pat still has another year to work on this new record. In the boys 11-12 years old, Pat's brother Sean broke the 200m back stroke record with a time of 2:43:38 In the boys 15 and over, Bryan Shouldice broke both the team and Huronia records with a 2:29:89 in the 200m fly. Brian also altered the Midland record book with a time of 2:08:00 in the 200m free style. Records in the 11 and 12 year old bracket fell to Jen- ny Gibson in the 100m and 200m breast stroke events with times of 1:31:72 and 3:11:62 respectively. Muriel Henry's specialty, the butterfly, proved her strongest event, setting a record in the 200m with a very respectable 2:48:30. Kyla Rollinson showed her strength in the backstroke breaking the record in the 200m with a time of 2700074 Midland has fielded some good relay teams in past years. This was to be no exception as gold medals were gobbled up by the local aquatics in the 11 and 12 year old boys and girls and the 15 and over girls. The combination of Jen- ny Gibson, Stacey Robert- son, Muriel Henry and Kyla Rollinson swam an even 2:11 in the 200m free style relay and 2:28:32 in the medley. Sean Brooks, Brent Lan- dry, Chris Neville and Pat Brooks registered a record time of 2:15:06 in the 200m freestyle and 2:32:84 in their 200m medley. The 15 and over girls 200m freestyle relay was swam in a record breaking time of 2:12:64 and the 200m individual medley relay was also a record set- ter with a time of 2:33:92. Becky Whittam, Lise Magnan, Melissa Cave and Kristi Haines were the win- nimg quartet. Measuring Summer is officially here when the ladies don their whites and head for the local lawn bowling club.
