Other members being: Jen- nifer Martin, Chantalle Asselin, Monica Marion. Our members are thrilled to have learned how to be independant, feeding yourself well, how to live economically, making wise decisions, taking care of your clothyings, cleaning up and getting around (travelling). This club is taught under the enthusiastic leadership of Beverly Duquette and Jean Secord. Students toured the municipal building and also held mock trials and explored the jail cells. The North Simcoe Arts Council NSAC has held two meetings of the ad hoc literary committee. The goal of the arts council is to form a permanent literary committee to run programs for people interested in any aspect of literature. The enthusiasm and diversity of the volunteers' ideas are encouraging. Now is the time for you to get in on the ground floor , of the fledgling committee. On Thursday May 7, at 7:30 p.m., at the Budd Watson' Gallery' in Midland, there will be a general meeting for anyone interested in participating in the formative stages of the full literary committee. If you are interested in reading, writing, teaching or learning about literature you are invited to attend. Programs suggested so far are: meet the author nights, a readers' club, idea exchange, workshops, mutual support groups, a library of literary journals and magazines, and the most ambitious of all, the publication of a literary journal by the NSAC. The journal will focus on the writers and artists of North Simcoe and include Literary journal for council all styles of prose and poetry from all cultural backgrounds, inter-mixed with art and photography. The council is now seeking sources to fund the journal. The committee is looking to expand its membership of volunteers and pro- grams. So come out and get involved. & HELP KEEP RED CROSS READY! Map Not Io Scale , Ontario Hydro is conducting an environmen- tal study on the redevelopment of the existing Big Chute GS, on the Severn River (see map). The generating station was built in 1909. An additional unit was added in 1916 and today the station has an output of 4 MW. Once the proposed redevelopment is complete, the station is expected to have an output of 12 MW. The new powerhouse will be built on the site of the existing building and will be about half the size. All studies on the project will be conducted in accordance with the requirements of The Environmental Assessment Act, and will include technical, environmental, and eco- nomic aspects of the redevelopment project. Members of the public will have an opportu- nity to review and comment on study informa- tion during the study process. The results of the environmental assessment will be documented and submitted to the Ministry of the Environment. Construction is targetted to begin in 1990 with an in-service date of 1992.
