Doug Hebner Summer completion If the Ontario govern- ment gives their seal of ap- proval, Tay Township's Parks and Recreation Com- mittee hope to have a Master Plan Study of the municipality completed by August of 1988. At last Thursday morn- ing's session, the five- member council gave their support to a proposal, put forth by committee Chair- man Barry Norris and Vice-chairman Helen Swailes, calling for the council to apply to the Ministry of Recreation and Tourism for funding and approval of such a study. In his presentation to council, Norris said the goal of the study is to pro- vide the most feasible parklands and recreational programs for the residents of the the township. The study which would take. approximately one year to complete is estimated at costing close to $30,000. With the Ministry fun- ding up to 50 percent of the venture, township officials would be responsible for a maximum of $15,000. Last year, council budgeted $8,000 which has been kept in reserve until now for such a study. The chair- man also requested the ad- ditional money required come out of the parkland reserve account. Norris told council, the major benefit behind undertaking such a study is the grants available to municipalities with a master plan study in place. Without the study, the chairman explained, the township would not be en- titled to grant money from the province. The chairman added the study could be a money making venture for the township, if it is found the municipality has excessive parkland that could be sold off. After Thursday's meeting, the council will now write a letter of intent to the ministry asking for approval and funding for the study.
