Dump committee facing Ministry deadline With the Ministry of the Environment's (MOE) May 1 deadline drawing near, members of the North Sim- coe Waste Management Association (NSWMA) are anxious to sign an agree- ment with the Orillia land- fill site operators. Last summer MOE of- ficials contacted the NSWMA, warning them that an agreement for an alternate method for disposing of household garbage from the five municipalities, after the closing of the Pauze land- fill site in Perkinsfield, must be in place before the beginning of May. After talks with a number of area landfill site owners and operators, the only option that remains for the associaiton is the landfill site in Orillia. Site Selection Committee Chairman Bruce Tinney said the association is anx- iously awaiting word from the officials from Orillia on whether the MOE will give the city a new certificate of approval to allow the gar- bage from the five municipalities (Midland, Penetanguishene, Victoria Harbour, Port MceNicoll and Tay Township) into the Orillia site. If reports from the MOE are positive, city officials are to deal with the request by the NSWMA at their next council meeting on March 2a Ministry official lan Gray, who was on hand fer the last NSMWA session (March 3), said he was wor- ried the association was not working hard enough on coming up with an alternative method and warned the association could be faced with a fine of up to $2,000 a day for every day after Face changes at town The holders of the only two non-union § non- department head positions in the Midland town office are retiring.
