Top Hat leads round robin Round robin playoff action in Midland Recreational Hockey League resumed Friday night but still left a lot of doubt which two teams will advance to the finals. Cedarview and Performance Motor Sports skated to a 1-1 tie in the evening's opening fixture. Both goals were scored in the last five minutes of the hockey game. Doug Edwards broke the shutout at the 4:57 mark of the third with Ken Edgar and Ken Mitchell in on the play for Performance Motor Sports. It ap- peared that goal was going to stand for the victory, but Cedarview's Brian Garner con- nected with just 43 seconds remaining in the contest to give both teams a single point. Garms MufflerWorld outlasted a very determined Barrelworks Blues to defeat them 9-6. Carl Cowan blasted a pair of counters and - assisted on three others fora five point game. Teammate Bruce Guthrie connected for a hat trick in a winning cause. Jeff Dunn gave Barrelworks a 1-0 first period lead at 7:03 from Paul Robillard. Cowan replied for Garms at 5:37 on a solo effort before Guthrie struck for the first of two in a row 29 seconds later. However, Garms came out in the third ready for the kill, scoring four times. Guthrie tallied at 11:36 from Cowan, then Cowan scored unassisted four minutes later before Rick Graham tallied his second of the game with Cowan and Gordon assisting. Gord Paul rounded out Garms scoring with 21 seconds left, unassisted. Paul Quesnelle gave Penetang an early 1-0 lead unassisted two and a half minutes into the contest. Doug Reed replied for Jory's just over two minutes later on a solo effort. With only 22 seconds remaining in the opening period, Reed tallied again with Jeremy Sauve assisting for a 2-1 first period Jory's lead. Penetang moved into a tie 89 seconds into the middle stanza, as Quesnelle fired his se- cond of the game from Joel Dorion. B.]J. Sterl- ing with Reed in on the play, retrieved the Midland lead at 3:44 sending the teams to the dressing rooms. Paul Quesnelle completed his hat trick with just 35 seconds showing on the clock in the third to send the game into overtime. Penetang IGA blanked Midland Bertram Fuels 2-0 behind the two goal performance of Tim Moreau. Jonathan Dyer and Ryan Piitz each picked up an assist on the first Moreau goal. Midland Stoneleigh Motors battled to a 3-1 victory over Elmvale O'Neill's Auto Center. Robin Cameron scored half way through the first period on a solo effort, but Jeff Hopkins replied for Elmvale at 3:44 from Jason Toner and Mathew McCartney. Midland regained the lead with 42 seconds to play in the second frame on a goal by Rory Levechia unassisted. Cameron connected for his second of the game at 6:10 of the third sealing Elmvale's fate. Chad Buttineau drew an assist on the play. Stayner was tough on Oro, whitewashing them 10-0. Brad Soules tallied four times for the victors, while teammate Christopher Campbell notched a pair and added three assists for a five point game. In Mini Tyke action, Midland Stoneleigh/Meatland defeated Elmvale J&S Ritchie 5-3. Kris Franz scored for Meatland six and a half minutes into the contest, while Eric Tindale gave Stoneleigh/Meatland a 2-0 lead two minutes later assisted by Justin Nielson. Elmvale's Jason Parent cut the lead in half at 1:36 before Drew Ogden connected with the tying marker exactly one minute later on a solo effort. Meatland struck for two straight in the se- cond as Kris Dickeson and Tindale hit paydirt. Parent moved Elmvale to within one, but Neilson doused the Elmvale fire at 1:45 of the second. There was no scoring in the third. Dickeson earned an assist on the Neilson goal. Alliston scored once in the first and add- ed four more in the second to blank Midland Bertram/Jory's 5-0.
