Bike Shop leads league Bike Shop took the lead Saturday in novice stan- dings as Midland house league hockey playoffs continued. Cory Bath opened the scoring with his first of two goals to which Ryan Gautreau added what was to become the winner before Chris White scored late in the first for Mr. Sub- marine to give his team a lift going into the second period. However, from that time, Bike Shop shut out Mr. Submarine and went on to a 5-1 win with the other goals coming from Chad Thayer and Ryan Smith. In the other novice playoff, Dynasty Inn outscored Bourgeois Cougars 5-3. Bourgeois took a 3-1 lead on the strength of two goals from Aaron Dorion and one from Chad Arthurs before Dynasty rallied. Steven Marshall got three goals, Jason Desroches and Kyle Patterson one each. In peewee play, Midland Times got a five goal per- formance from Sean Lavin in an 8-3 decision over Cowan's Construction. Spencer Warren added a pair and Shawn Arthurs a single. For Cowan's, Ryan Deschambault figured in all three goals, assisting on one by Mike Boyd and ad- ding a pair of markers. Midland Police nipped John's Catering 3-2. John's Catering took a first period 2-0 lead with goals from Jeff Duval and Don Reidel. However Police then shut down their opposition and surged back in the last seven minutes for the win. Martin Kraftscik scored twice and Dennis Desjar- dins once, with all three goals assisted by Robert Kranz. In bantam play, Wye Heritage clipped Smith's Mobile 3-2 with Doug Rourke netting the winner in the third period. All the other scoring was in the first period with Joel Heins and Sean Lunnie giving Smith's a 2-0 lead before Darren Krause notched a pair to tie the game. In atom action, Little Generals beat Realty World 4-1 with goals from Jason Latour, Guy Lamoreaux, Keith Robinson and Craig Parkhill. Adam Corbiere tallied for Realty World. Royal LePage and Midland IGA played to a 2-2 tie with Jason Smith and Darren Cruise scoring for Royal LePage and Kevin Lunnie netting both IGA markers. In tykes, Meatland and Bertram's played to a one- all tie with Kris Franz scor- ing for Meatland and Jeff Lenka replying for Bertram's. Stoneleigh outplayed Jory's IDA 4-1 with Adam Contois, Robin Cameron and Marc Chartrand who got two tallying for Stoneleigh. Daryl McGib- bon scored for Jory's. Crusaders capture County title St. Theresa Junior Crusader Basketball team, fresh from winning the Simcoe County 'A' Cham- pionship the week before, have added the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Championship to their collection. The tournament was held last Wednesday at Base Borden. In their first game against St. Joseph's of Barrie, Crusaders over- came some good outside shooting by the Jaguars to win 53-39. Derek King, playing with sprained fingers, led all scorers with 14 points. Mike Roth chip- ped in with four baskets. In the final, Crusaders faced a tough squad from Gravenhurst. In the first half, inside play by Brad Larmand and Mike Roth helped St. T's to a 36-30 half time lead. Then, inexplicably, the team experienced a let- down that allowed their opponents to take a four point lead with four minutes remaining in the third period. Chris Quesnelle then rallied the team with three consecutive baskets and the score was tied at the end of three quarters 48-48. Crusader's defence tightened up in the final quarter, and their tenacious man to man coverage began to wear down Gravenhurst. Brad Larmand scored nine of his game high 28 points in the quarter Bubble burst for Peewees Penetanguishene Drift- wood Peewees went to the fifth and final game of their best of five Ontario Minor Hockey Association quarter final playoffs with Port Elgin before finally succumbing. After splitting the first two games of the series, Penetang took game three 5-4 at home. Port Elgin scored first in the opening period before Tim Maheu answered for the hosts from Francois Charlebois. Driftwood took a 2-1 lead in the second when Jesse Bazinet con- nected with Maheu assisting. However, Port Elgin came back with three straight tallies to take a 4-2 lead. Chris Diesveld edged Penetang to within one leading off the third with Charlebois in on the play before Maheu clicked with the tying marker. Diesveld teamed with Maheu for the game winner. Back in Port Elgin for game four, Maheu scored for Penetang in the middle frame after a scoreless first period. Diesveld collected the assist. The hosts then con- nected for four consecutive power play tallies for a 4-1 lead. Maheu notched his second marker of the con- test in the third but Port Elgin came back with a pair to win 6-2. Game five in Penetang was a seesaw battle with penalties playing a large role in the outcome. Penetang was assessed 22 minutes in penalties to just eight for Port Elgin. Port Elgin scored first in the opening frame, but Tim Mason replied from Dave Brooks. The visitors took the lead once again, but Shawn McConkey notched the equalizer from Adrian Maurice and _ Chris Diesveld. Brooks gave Penetang the lead from Charlebois and Maheu for a 3-2 Penetang lead after one period. Port Elgin tied the count in the second, but Maheu struck again for a 4-3 hometown lead. Chris Marchildon increased the lead to 5-3 before Port Elgin struck for a pair en- ding the second period tied at 5-5. Two unanswered third period goals gave Port Elgin the game and the series. Roll up your sleeve to save a life... BEA BLOOD DONOR leading Crusaders to a 61-54 triumph. Mike Roth helped out with nine points, while Quesnelle and King chipped in with eight each. The team showed im- provement as the year pro- gressed and really came together in the last month. They were full value for their championships. Team members are Chris Quesnelle, Steve Roth, Mike Roth, Adam Four- nier, Brad Larmand, Derek King, J.P. VandenHeuvel, John Kraftscik, Mike Ker- ton, and Wes Zoschke. St. Theresa's Senior Crusaders were narrowly defeated by Base Borden 89-79 in the GBSSA 'A' semi final game. Base Borden's zone press gave the Crusaders a great deal of trouble in the first half as Borden went out to a 25 point lead. The Crusaders fought back in the second half to get within six points of Borden in the final minutes. Trevor Scott led Crusaders with 29 points while Dave Cadieux con- tributed 27 in a losing cause.
