Well water safe A Ministry of the En- vironment (MOE) report says Perkinsfield water is safe for drinking. "Our review of the results indicate that the water quality continues to comply with the Ontario Drinking Water Objec- tives," MOE District Of- ficer Ian Gray wrote. The report included levels for a wide range of elements in the Perkins- field and Asselin wells and how they compared to the drinking water standards. Apparently, concern had vented on the level of manganese. According to Gray, the level in the Asselin well is 0.076 mg/L, which falls below the max- imum desirable concentra- tion of 0.05 mg/L, which "is based on aesthetic con- siderations rather than on health," the officer wrote. A_more complete lab report is still in the works. THE * China * Stoneware "e Crystal ° Flatware * Nurseryware 711 Yonge St., Midland We've got what you're looking for... And so much more... County budget on drawing board The next time represen- tatives on the Simcoe County Council meet, their top priority will be the county's 1987 budget. At last Tuesday's ses- sion, budget proposals from the nine sub- committees of council were tabled for further study by the General Government Committee. Within the next two weeks, the seven-member General Government Committee will have met five times, reviewed all the individual proposals, met with the committees chairman and department head, analyzed the proposals and made whatever cuts are necessary. The final budgets for the various subcommittees will be compiled into one budget document that will be brought before council for approval on Feb. 26. According to County Clerk Al Pelletier, under the Ontario Municipal Act all County administrations must have their budget ap- proved by the last day of February. Once the budget for the year has been given assent, the council must make the final decisions on the levies to be taxed to the 34 municipalities in the county. By the end of March, county' ad- ministrators will be prepared to send notice of the municipalities' levies in order that the smaller councils can prepare their operating budgets for 1987 as well. Council meets on Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Ad- ministration Centre in Midhurst.
