The game was the last regularly scheduled Georgian Bay Junior C hockey game for both teams. Brent Insley tallied at 4:58 of the opening frame from Jeff Douglas and Chris Edwards. Shawn Davy made his presence felt with a marker early in the middle stanza assisted by Daryl] Belcourt and Tom Hook. Archie Meridis connected at 2:48 on a play with Pat Mar- chand and Guy Jeannotte, while newcomer Jim Cascadden clicked 38 seconds later with help from Insley. Insley upped the score for Midland to 5-0 at the midway point of the contest as he slapped in Dave Davies' original attempt. At this point, Penetang seemed to come'to life and cashed in three con- secutive markers. Rob Desroches got the puck rolling for the visitors at 10:41 from Kent Nelson and Wayne Desjardins. Shortly after, Brad Klugston set up Desjardins for the second Penetang goal, then Perry Beausoleil made it a two goal game as he connected at 17:49 from Mike Magloughlin and Mark Dubeau. Daryl Belcourt halted the Midland slide as he team- ed with Tom Mook for a goal with just 17 seconds in the period to double the two period score on Penetang 6-3. Kings again came within a pair of tallies at 10:34 as Gary Lynch found the range assisted by Mike Brunelle, but that was all Midland were willing*to give them in this contest. Cents added two more before the game ended. In- sley completed the hat- trick at 10:48 assisted by Jeff Douglas, and Douglas collected the game's final goal at 19:36 with an assist from the goaltender. Midland hosted Penetang Kings in Caley leads Peewees win Midland Bell Canada Minor Peewes began their best of five Ontario Minor Hockey Association playoffs on the weekend by splitting with Owen Sound Douglas Cleaners. At Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound on Saturday, Midland came _ from behind three times to take a two goal 5-3 lead into the final period, but coughed up three unanswered tallies to lose the opening game 7-5. Owen Sound's Bill McComb scored his first of four just 18 seconds into the game, but Troy Caley replied for Midland a minute and a half later assisted by Mark Raven. Owen Sound clicked again at 2:07, but once again Bell Canada answered the call a scant 13 seconds later as Ryan Walser teamed with Troy Caley for a 2-2 tie after the first period. The home team grabbed the lead less than a minute into the middle frame, but Walser was johnny-on-the- spot 59 seconds later with help from Sean Rourke and Caley. Caley then gave Midland a 5-3 lead with a back-to-back brace at 9:15 and 6:30. Rourke and Raven assisted on the first while Adam Bourgeois garnered an assist on the second. : Unfortunately for Midland, that was all the offence they would get in this contest as the Sound's McComb tallied late in the second and early in the third plus one more to sink the Bell Canada ship. In Sunday's return fix- ture, Midland once again were forced to play cat- chup. Owen Sound scored in the first period and again early in the second before Midland got on the board. Then Midland's Troy Caley went into his act scoring four con- secutive goals to change the momentum of the con- test. Craig Slama, Ryan Walser, and Adam Bourgeois each collected a pair of assists while Trevor Quesnelle and Dennis Maheu each collected one. Midland led 4-2 after two periods. Owen Sound came back with two quick third period tallies, before Caley connected again at 13:11 assisted by Quesnelle to regain the slim lead. With 4:09 remaining in the game, Caley struck for the sixth time with help from Craig Slama. Owen Sound notched a marker with just 23 seconds in the game. Midland won game two 6-5.
