Chairman and president agree on commissioner The North Simcoe Com- munity Futures Committee has written the members of Midland Town Council to clear up possible confusion. "Recently the local press have published certain ar- ticles that could be inter- preted as stating that there is a duplication of services (mainly in connection with economic development) between the Midland Chamber of Commerce and ourselves," said the let- ter signed by Chairman Robbert Hartog. The letter continues to explain that, "Our mandate (from the Federal Depart- ment of Manpower and Immigration) is to create jobs by encouraging local (mainly new) entrepeneurs. We are quite logically not permitted to attract to this area industries from other parts of Canada, as this would not create new jobs, but would only redistribute jobs inside the country." "As our mandate is district wide we can only act in the total interest of the district and not in the specific interest of one municipality." During the annual meeting of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, two days later, President Hans Witt referred to the same subject: The North Simcoe Development Cor- poration Program is com- plementary to the Midland Chamber of Commerce economic development ef- fort. As well, the federally- funded program is not per- manent, Witt said. Ainley is overseas The president of Ainley and Associates, the con- sulting engineering firm employed by Midland and Victoria Harbour, and other municipalities, is in Ethiopia. Company President Bill Ainley left on Jan. 20 for six months. A professional civil engineer, he volunteered to supervise the construction of deep wells, pumps and storage reservoirs for 12 Ethiopian villages. Ainley's company became part of a controver- sy in Midland last year when the Town Council chose Ainley and Associates to replace the dismissed engineering department staff. An ar- bitration hearing will be held this Thursday into a complaint about the dismissal laid by the labour union which represents some of the dismissed employees. NSWMA meet tonight Representatives from the five municipalities in the North Simcoe Waste Management Association will meet for the first time in two months this evening. The 12 remaining members will sit down in the council chambers of the Municipal Offices in Penetanguishene at 7:30 p.m. NSWMaA Secretary Yvon Gagne said the agenda for tonight's session is very light, containing only a number of cor- respondences. More infor- mation on issues the group has been working on, the compensation package for landowners near the site purchased for a dump, and Man, noon as part of their Winter Frolic in Splitting a match? Actually, beavers and cubs were trying an alternative method of disposing of garbage as an interum measure after the gates of the Pauze dump are closed in October, is still necessary before anything can be completed by the association. According to Gagne, a draft of the Environmental Assessment of Site 41 (the Wayne Johnson farm) to be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment could be distributed this evening, but because of the com- plexity and size of the document a_ special meeting later in the month will probably be called. Budget time in Port Village officials in Port MeNicoll are expected to begin work on_ the municipalities' 1987 budget by the end of the month. According to Clerk- treasurer Ted Walker, council can begin prepar- ing for this year's budget, but the final document will Wyevale. Jason Robitaille of the 2nd Page 10, Tuesday, February 3, 1987 not be ready for another few months. Although Walker said the various committees of council have prepared their budget proposals, the major set-back is waiting for the levies from county council, the school boards and the North Simcoe Waste Management Association.
