Novices Midland Gervan and Associates Novices en- joyed a two win weekend with home and away vic- tories against Stayner. Saturday, Midland travelled to Creemore to play the Stayner Novices. Joe Rooney and Chris Henry paved the way for Gervan and Associates as they each netted a hat trick enroute to an 8-1 victory. Rooney scored less than two minutes into the con- test on a solo effort, while Ryan Aspinwall made the score 2-0 at 3:26 from Rooney. With just 44 seconds showing' on the clock, Joe McGill's shutout was lost as Stayner found the mark to make the score 2-1 Midland after one period. Henry and Rooney each notched unassisted markers in the middle frame at 3:07 and 1:30. Rooney assisted on a Henry goal with only 28 seconds to play. Henry connected 11 seconds into the final period with help from Pat Brooks. Adam McCarty tallied from Aspinwall at 7:05 before Rooney finish- ed the scoring assisted by Aaron Coutts. Sunday afternoon, the score was different, but the result was the same as Ger- van and_ Associates Novices skated to -a 5-1 win. Rooney started where he left off on Saturday by den- ting the twine with only eight seconds remaining in the first frame. Aaron Coutts drew the assist on the play. As coincidence would have it, Rooney struck again, this time with eight seconds expired in the second period. Stayner found the mark at 7:29, but Kevin Wood replied at 4:45 for Midland on a solo effort. Pat Brooks from Chris Cadeau and Ryan Aspin- wall from Chris Henry and Wood closed out the scor- ing in the final period for Gervan Novices O'Hara takes spiel Donna O'Hara skipped her foursome to victory in the Annual Business Ladies Open Bonspiel Saturday at the Midland Curling Club. O'Hara, along with vice Catharine Barrett, second Dale Walsh, and lead Shirley Widdes topped the 10 team field in the two draw 10 end game's spiel. The event which includ- ed teams from Barrie Elmvale, Orillia, and Penetang along with Midland, is co-sponsored by Shell Canada and Indusmin. Runners up this year were another Midland foursome with Sandra Brett at Skip, Sue Rooney playing vice, Wendy Lar- mand, second, and Nancy Brett throwing lead rocks. The theme of the one day event was the very ap- propos 'uncrate the sun'. In other. Curling Club news, the Keith Williams foursome went down to defeat at the Ontario Curl- ing Association Seagram's Five Star Mixed Regional Playdowns in Norich on the weekend.
