Health care professionals will discuss PMS, its causes, treatment and re- cent advances in research. An estimated one of every two women of child- bearing age suffer from premenstrual syndrome. PMS is a complex group of symptoms that a woman experiences starting one to 14 days before each menstrual period. The symptoms vary in type and severity, and in- clude depression, irritabili- ty, breast discomfort, and fluid retention. More than 150 symptoms are associated with PMS. Dr. Dianne McGibbon will talk about PMS in Bar- rie on Oct. 30, in the Blue Flame Room, 165 Ferris Lane. Dr. McGibbon has researched PMS and has designed and tested a char- ting tool for PMS. Marsh volunteers honoured Volunteers are the key to success for the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre - and Wye Marsh's volunteers are proud of the role they play in keeping the Centre alive. Wye Marsh staff and volunteers celebrated their happy relationship when they met last Tuesday, for a Volunteer Appreciation night at the Centre. Over 50 volunteers came out to enjoy a huge cake, look at a scrapbook of photos and clippings from the recent Wildlife Festival, and bask in applause and praise from Anne _ Connell, volunteer co-ordinator and Executive Director Bob Whittam. "We can never thank you enough for all you've done,"' said Connell as she presented volunteers with certificates, Wye Marsh lapel pins and wildlife posters as tokens of ap- preciation from the staff. "Your energy, enthusiasm and hard work is what makes it all possible." The tremendous success of the first Wye Marsh Wildlife Festival testifies to New toys Organizers of an upcom- ing sale of new books and toys suggest the sale as a chance for people to do some early Christmas shopping. The sale of new books and toys is being organiz- ed to benefit the Pene- tanguishene Co-op Nursery School. The sale will be held in Penetang's First Presbyterian Church on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. Rec department holds coach's clinic The Midland Recreation Department is hosting a Level On Theory Coaches Clinic this fall. It is designed to make the rewards of coaching that much better. And the more you get out of coaching, the more your athletes get out of their sport. The theory component of the program offers coaches information on such things as leadership, motivation, nutrition and fitness. In many situations, it also gives coached of different sports the opportunity to get together to discuss common _ needs. The technical section com- plements the Theory and instructs you in tried and proven methods to help you be a truly effective and dynamic coach. However, the Festival is only one example of how Wye Marsh depends on its volunteer friends. "Saturday night Bingo, our most successful. fun- draising effort so far, has raised over $60,000 for Wye Marsh," said Connell. Each week, five volunteers give their Saturday even- ings to run _ Bingo. Altogether, volunteers gave over 5,000 hours to Wye Marsh this past summer, working in the store, office, and workshop, doing a wide variety of jobs which help to keep the Centre afloat. More help is always needed.
