Weekend fires cause considerable damage The Midland Fire Department responded to seven fire calls over the weekend, two of which resulted in considerable damage. Firemen were called to the scene of a house fire on Sunday, where they spent three hours fighting a blaze that caused considerable damage. The _ house, located at 371 King Street, was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. i The fire department responded to two fire calls to Beaver Lumber cn Sun- day. The first, at 10:21 p.m., was the result of a fire in the lumber yard's garbage bin. Firemen report considerable damage to lumber as a result of the fire. They were Called' back to the scene at 11:30 p.m. the same night, when vandals re-ignited the garbage bin, causing more substantial damage. $1,000. The department responded to another gar- bage bin fire in Little Lake Park. Moreau said the fire there was caused by vandals. The fire department also | responded to three false alarms. Police charged eight with impaired driving, issued six 12-hour suspensions, one break and enter, six boating charges and one obstruction of justice offence. Police also investigated nine break and enters, thir- teen thefts, three assaults, six willful damage and seven other complaints. As well, police in- vestigated 11 traffic ac- cidents last week, eight of which resulted in property damage and three personal injuries. Bluewater woman charged with careless driving A 19-year-old Bluewater woman has been charged with failing to stop for ™ police and other charges | after a police chase Saturday. Police say they motioned to stop a vehicle on Coun- ty Road 17 in Coldwater. After a chase that led to Concession 5 in Tay Township police stopped the car. Charged is Shelley Ann Vessair with obstructing justice, failing to stop for police, careless driving and driving without a licence. Midland OPP > assist Metro Toronto Hold-up Squad Midland OPP assisted the Metro Hold-Up Squad Friday when they arrested a man on Christian Island wanted by police. The man is wanted in connection with an armed robbery police say and was caught after a province- wide search. Charged is Raymond Parks, 25, of Scarborough, Ontario. Midland OPP charge man with break and enter Midland OPP have charged a man with break and enter Monday after a cottage break-in in the Coutnac Beach area. Police say after the com- plaint, they came upon a male suspect leaving the cottage that had been broken into through the front door. There were no stolen goods to recover. O.P.P. report Charged is Joseph Peter Dumont, 31, of Lot C, Con- cession 17 of Tiny Township. Collision results in $15,000 damage to two Cars Two cars collided Sun- day at the County Road 26 and Concession 18 in- tersection ob, Tiny Township resulting in $15,000 damage to both vehicles. Police say Eleanor Emms, 36, of Pene- tanguishene was travelling northbound on County Road 26 and turned into another car while driving onto Concession 18. The driver of the other car, Sandy Martin of Bar- rie, was travelling east- bound on Concession 18 when the cars collided. Both drivers and five passengers were taken to Huronia District Hospital but were later released with minor injuries.
