Good turnout makes Portarama a success Munchie With: ideal weather on Saturday and the not so ideal weather conditions that plagued the second day of the Second Annual Por- tarama on Sunday everything slated for the weekend's activities went right on schedule. According to Portarama Committee Vice-chairman Pat Armstrong, despite the overcast and cool day on Sunday, organizers are pleased with the turnout of the weekend festivities and are already talking about next year's third annual. Although the committee has not figured out all of their expenses and revenues, Armstrong said they are considering this weekend as a huge success. The weekend, full of fun and games for the whole family, was a community event with the smallest of toddlers to the senior citizens in the Village get- ting in on the festivities that included everything from a Pioneer Parade Saturday to a gigantic barbecue in the park on Sunday. Even though some par- ticipants weren't lucky enough to be prize winners in the numerous contests that were held, those on hand went home knowing they had a fun-filled weekend. Prizes galore were given out for the many entries in the parade. Winners in the best decorated bike contest were Heather Calvert, Chris Banks, Kandice Neal, Bobby Robertson, Lisa Smith, Robbie Ladouceur, Pam Lever and Alisa Short. Top prizes for the floats went to the Port McNicoll Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, Port MeNicoll Public School and the Port MecNicoll 4H Club, No. 2. The first place finishing Beavers, Cubs and Scouts were also the reci- pients of the Challenge Cup Trophy for the best theme entry in the parade. Anne Brown, Eileen Hocken and Kelly Neal took the top three spot, respec- tively, in the adult competi- tion of the Pioneer Costume Contest held at the Com- munity Centre Saturday afternoon, while Shawn Wilson, Cory Robitaille and Sharon Barnes were the money winners in the children's competition. a f 'iil be ad \nwiisdNib lll 'Dis Gall d jibe
