Sold out The annual Midland Horticultural Society plant sale, held last Saturday on the Town dock, was nearly over as soon as it started. Four hundred red geraniums were scooped up by buyers. Thé red geranium is the Town's official flower. The Society is tak- ing orders for more of the flowers. Above, Travis Newton, not yet two years of age, poses with some of the popular flowers. Docks ready for visitors Midland town dock is im- proving to better serve visiting boaters this year. Begun several years ago, the upgrading has turned the docks, once a place for com- mercial vessels, into a people place. The strolling promenade, and sun shelters, combined with attractive street fur- niture and greenery gives visiting boaters a good first impression of Midland and provides an excellent dock- side atmosphere for non- boaters who wish to spend a relaxing day beside the water. Located at the foot of Midland's downtown business district the docks are in a good position to pro- vide boaters with all the ser- vices and conveniences they need. Last summer about 4,500 boaters used the courtesy shoppers dock while they stocked-up on provisions. The docks are also a good safe place to leave your boat while visiting the many area tourist attractions. Harbour Master Rick Learney says his harbour is, "a first class operation and will be open again this year with wide arms welcoming everyone. "We offer electrical hook- ups, water, public washrooms, private showers, a pump out facility and new, this year, boaters will have their own laundromat." The docks _ provide seasonal berths for 80 boats and has 22 finger docks for overnight boats. Rates for overnight dockage are $8 for boats up to 25 feet in length. As well, there is an addi- tional 750 feet of side dockage where boats on short visits can tie-up. During the spring months when boating activity is get- ting underway, the docks are open during the week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but at the end of June with the increased activity they are open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Complementing the docks facilities are the daily boat tours of the Miss Midland, which during the summer months shows visitors twice daily and sometimes three times a day, weather permit- ting, the beauty of Georgian Bay's 30,000 islands. Special events at the docks this summer include a sail past by the Midland sailing club and a rotary barbecue.
