The first period saw end to end action with both teams grinding it out along the boards. Thorn- ton threw the first scoring punch on a crease scram- ble. The Petras were not to be outdone, Karen Graham took a pass from Maureen McKinnon and shot a slick wrist shot low to the goalies blocker side and tied the game before the end of the first period. The second period saw the Petras go ahead for the first time in the game on a swift passing play by Jane Derry to Jen Legault who easily ;ut it by the quick Thornton goalie. Thornton was again heard from before the period ended leaving the game tied at two apiece. In the third period both teams refused to give an inch. Superb goaltending by both goalies and especially Gayle Hamelin of the Petras kept the game intense. With both teams giving it their all the Petras finally broke the deadlock with 3:22 left in the game. Karen Graham checking in the corner flipped a pass out to Maureen McKinnon who batted it home to put them ahead three to two. Thornton refused to die and put a gallant fight up but could not break the Petras goalie Gayle Hamelins shining armour as the team counted the remaining seconds on the clock. The "D" Division Cham- pion Petras would like to thank their coach Ben Lowell and manager Alex Munro for such a fine season and to all their sup- portive fans who followed the Petras in their season long quest. In the main event, Jesse (The Body ) Ventura and Randy (Macho Man) Savage lost the match to Tito Santana and the Junk Yard Dog at 9:42 of their one fall match. By the way, Tito Santana lost his Intercontinental title recently in Boston to (The Macho Man) Randy Savage. Adrian Adonis won over George (The Animal) Steele at 9:11, when George went to work on the head of Adonis with Jimmy Harts boot. Tag team action continued as Jim (The Anvil) Neidhart and Brett (The Hit Man) Hart scored a victory over the team of B. Brian Blair and Leaping Lanny Poffo at 13:48. Poffo filled in for Jumping Jim Brunzell who had transportation problems. Leaping Lanny Poffo eliminated Rene Goulet at 11:42, while Pedro Morales defeated Steve Lombardi at 9:28. Jake (The Snake) Roberts beat Scott McGee at 8:36, then Tony Peasouper packs "em in gside Report (Cannonball) Parisi over came Barry 0 at 10:14. The same world winn- ing crop earned Schaly first place honours in Fri- day's competition. He was also named reserve champion in cereals. A total of 36 exhibitors took part. ©@ Price includes material & labour e RE- esr pe : 2 piece set ~ ~ They streamed into Peenetanguishene for the famous Peasouper Bonspiel on Saturday . Rinks from Alliston, Barrie, Downsview, East York, Newmarket, Thorn- bury and Weston. Of course, our own members and our good friends and neighbours from Midland also took part. Although we iced 24 rinks in two draws, Pop Gravelle had to turn down many applications. Most of the visitors asked kindly after Pop. He was down in Florida on holiday. Pop was sadly missed. The acting drawmaster was not of the same high standard. He had an an- noying habit of blowing a whistle to attract atten- tion when he was about to make an announcement. After one loud blast, one of our leading citizens, who was nursing a Russ Howard sympathy hangover, suggested another use for the whis- tle. Another visiting wit in the crowd remarked "When he was a kid, he must have wanted to be a policeman". then a local informed, "he was". It's not all serious curl- ing at the Peasouper. An- nette St. Amant and her lovely assistants produced a great supper from the kitchen. Joan Bellisle kept the lines moving at the bar and Ron kept a tight con- trol on the drawmaster. On the ice, Garry Phillips of East York was the top three games win- ner. His rink was Sandy Rae, vice, Klem Wenske 2nd, with Dave Godward at lead. Other three game winners were _ Rod Reynolds Midland, Del Thorpe Midland, (those aes La. Got a @RTICIPACTION 3 Midland curlers must like our ice) and Ward Hanlon, Newmarket. All the visitors were high in their praise of Penetang Hospitality. The second half of the Peasouper goes next week with a full slate.
