Children in other countries need their help Most Canadian children take for granted the basic comforts of a pillow, mattress, blankets and a safe place to sleep at night. As a special Lenten project, students at Midland's Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Separate School are making their own personal donations to Murray Dryden's unique "Sleeping Children Around the World"' See ATH Mm charity, which provides these necessities for poverty stricken youngsters. At Sacred Heart, enough money has already been collected to provide 16 bed kits, like those modelled here by (from LEFT) Jeff Webb, 8, Amy Richmond, 9, and Paul Mason, 11, in Teacher Don Beauchamp's Everybody doing their own thing A Midland Stoneleigh Centennial player attempts to freeze the puck along the boards as Midland defenceman, Rob Fortin (14), seems to be SX-V200(BK) 60 WATTS $259 SX-V300(BK) 90 WATTS SX-V400(BK) 120 WATTS $425 SX-V500(BK) 160 WATTS Reg. "Sleeping Children Around the World'"' (SCAW) is an absolutely unique and effective charity initiated and administred by Murray Dryden, father of famous Montreal Canadiens' Goaltender Ken Dryden. Since his early retirement in 1972, the senior Dryden has devoted himself to providing. proverty stricken homeless children with the basic survival tools of a simple sleeping kit: a mattress, rubber ground sheet, two sheets, a pillow, two pairs of pyjamas, and a mosquito net or extra blanket. Approximately 100,000 $28 kits have been distributed directly to needy children in 17 countries since SCAW began. "There is nothing more beautiful and peaceful than a sleeping child," maintains Dryden, who uses his photographic skills to provide sponsors with pictures of their "adopted"' child holding the kit they financed. The Religion Com- mittee at Sacred Heart School was drawn to "Sleeping Children Around the World" because it demonstrates to the students that they can actually do something effective about the world's big problems In the spirit of '"'children helping children,' all funds at Monte Carlo Dance Perkinsfield Parks and Recreation Com- mittee is sponsoring a Monte Carlo Night and Dance in Lafontaine's .- Parish Hall, on April 12, starting at 8 p.m. Lunch is included in the admission charge of $5 per person. Sacred Heart are being raised by the students' personal donations. The kids have been taking a real interest in the progress charted by classroom and hallway "thermometers,"' that currently register 28 sleeping kits, financed by the $462 collected within the school. -Touching Bases -- Simcoe County mediate basketball league were defeated Stayner Dycona Motel Mystics action last week.
