tea Nc a - Ringside Report by LARRY BOWEN Despite its long reputation as basically a live action, ringside sport, with a loyal following of TV fans, professional wrestling has recently entered the "'video age."' Wrestling videos have sometimes been available , on rare occasions for a few years, but just before Christmas 1985 Coliseum Video began to market a full line of 14 World Wrestling Federation (WWF) cassettes. Their spectacular "Wrestlemania" video, filmed in New York's Madison Square Gardens last March 31, is an excellent choice for newcomers to the sport, because it features about 10 bouts between the biggest names in professional wrestling. "Hulkamania'"' is probably the most popular of Midland Saints tered women = and Oldtimers and CKVR_ children. According to 'No Stars entertained a reports, $1300 was raised as a direct result of ticket sales. The No Stars received full marks for antics, which delighted full house Saturday evening at Centennial Arena with proceeds going to Rosewood, the area shelter for bat- their' the new videos. Its star, Hulk Hogan, is easily wrestling's number one celebrity, and you really get an inside look at what makes him tick, on this tape. One of my favourites is still 'Rowdy Roddy Piper's Greatest Hits." After hearing Piper in- terviewed, and watching his outrageous antics on video, it becomes obvious why this man was voted "Most Hated Wrestler"' for 1985. The first regional distributor for Coliseum wrestling tapes was Toronto's A & H Video, but several selections are now available for rent at Midland's Roxy Home Video, and Pen Theatre Video in Penetanguishene. Coliseum plans to add another three wrestling cassettes to its lineup, by Feb. 26. Rosewood raises $7,300 in benefit the Midland goaltender. On another occasion, the No Stars were ap- parently upset that their the fans of all ages. On one occasion, a No Star skated from the faceoff with a puck on a string connected to his stick goaltender allowed and preceeded to Midland to score a goal, put the puck "traded" ~him= to (and the stick) behing Midland in exchange for Legion had the Winterama spirit Sports Officer Kitty Perrault from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 68 in Penetang (right) presents Cathy Dupuis, organizer of the First Annual Winterama Ball Hockey Tournament, with the winning trophy for the Ann's School. _Scoreboardqa---- Bey 3 Head i Georgian Bay Men's Hockey League Standings TEAM GP WL T PTS Village Square Pharmacy 19 abe a 25 Dial-a-Movie 19 oO ae 4 24 Jug City 19710) 26: 33 23 Duquette's Electronics Thy Blue He Ps 20 Stewart's T.V. 19F 89 2 2 18 Piitz Builders 19) "16-2 4 Leading Scorers PLAYER TEAM G A PTS Pierre Belanger Brian Rambler, Martial Marion Village Square 24 33 57 Dial-a-Movie 17 31 48 VillageSquare 18 29 47 Ken Mitchell VillageSquare 15 25 40 Pat Belanger Village Square 21 18 39 Terry King Dial-a-Movie 24 14 38 Steve Bottineau Stewart'sT.V. 11 27 38 eo of Mountainview Mail Midland eon 526-7788 Penny Paradis, Cosmetician eFree Make-up Lessons eFacials eEar Piercing eNail Tips eManicures, including new French technique eW axing, partial or complete For that final touch- Designer Fragrances MERLE NORMAL wm MERLE NORMAN ma MERLE NORMAN Be UYWYOU JRBW = UYWYOU TRBW a UYUWUYOU J RBW as UUWOU TRB their goaltender. However, the first shot he handled, the No Stars goaltender turned around and shot the puck into the Midland net. Another time, CK- VR seemed to disagree with referee' Rick Griffis' determination where the face off should be, and didn't seem to be able to convince the adamant Griffis until a crisp $20 bill was proffered. This prodedure occured three times until the faceoff was well Midland territory. If anyone is in- terested, the score of the game was 9-6 in favor of Midland, who were "thoroughly boo'd by a partisan crowd," ac- cording to Midland Saints' Bryan MacKell. Fred Flood recorded a hat trick for the Saints. MacKell also stated children's tournament. The Legion, that the Saints donated along with the Dock Lunch, sponsored their time for the the first ever ball hockey tournament contest, and went on to that was won by a squad from St. say that the team "thoroughly enjoyed their participation."
