France Picard: new French Centre director Centre D'Activites Francaises in Penetanguishene is 'starting off the new year with a new director. France Picard was appointed by the cen- tre's board of directors to replace Claudette Paquin who resigned from the position late last year, after only 16 months as director, in order to continue her studies at the University of Ottawa. The 34-year-old Picard, who has been working as volunteer at the French Centre since moving to Penetanguishene two and a half years ago, officially took over the duties of director, Jan. Ly Picard, a Quebec native, left a position as a Public Health Nurse with the Simcoe County Health Unit to take over the full-time position at the centre. Although Picard admits the two jobs are quite different, she added her work at the Unit she used many of the administration and organizational skills necessary to fulfill the position vacated with the resignation of Paquin. Picard, who was chosen by the board out of a large number of applicants, says it is a little too early for her to set any goals for the centre since yesterday was her first day on the job as a result of the Christmas season. At this point, Picard's main ambition, as the new director, is to continue and maintain the high level of work that is already being done by the staff and volunteers at the centre.
