On the broom by ED PEARSON Earlier in the year I was pressganged on to the Penetang curling executive and up till now I have been as useful as a chocolate firescreen. It all changed last week when I was detailed off to assist Omar Gravelle organize the Turkey Bonspiel. (I know that his friends call him Pop but how often do you get a chance to call a chap Omar?) Pop explained the intricacies of the draw and the scoresheet, he supervised the shopping cart when he shopped for the turkeys. The bonspiel was played last Sunday and was won by that old smoothie, Maurice Bellisle who shepherded his rink of Ann Timmins, Guy Moreau and Dina Van Der Velde into top spot. The other two game winners were the John Carpenter and Paul Boucher rinks. It was a grand Bonspiel. All the sheets were filled, Bill Howard had the ice sheened to perfection, Ron and Joan were genial hosts at the bar and Rick Moreau directed traffic at the prizetable. If you want some relief from the thrills and spills of competitive curling, come out to the rink on Thursday afternoons at one sharp. The Seniors and the lady curlers spend some quality time together in friendly curling. The Ice Maidens under the leadership of Ann Ross, and the Frozen Fogies with Scotty Wallace at the helm, have a running battle going, modesty forbids me from reporting who is ahead in the series. Russ Howard continues to enchance the name of our club by winning the cashspiel at Elmvale last Sunday. Congratulations Russ!
