School hosts question/answer period by CATHY DUPUIS Last week Corpus Christi School's Grade 8 classes hosted a question and answer period. The person, Guillaume Passaro, on the other end of the questions, was an exchange student from Grenoble, France. The students quizzed Guillaume on_ the different aspects of his way of life. He informed the students that the cuisine in France consisted of snails and frog's legs, which brought a wide variety of reaction from the students. He also informed the students that the average size family in France consisted of four to five people. Guillaume told his audience that his favorite music is hard rock, which pleased the crowd. When asked who his favorite group was, he hesitated, then replied Led Zepplin and Iron Maiden. Guillaume came to Penetanguishene through an exchange program run through Ecole Secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School. His exchange partner is Jim Hartman, who is an ESPSS student. Jim is one of 30 students who are participating in the program throughout Simcoe County. This special event fit for a Princess Princess Alexandra of Kent will be arriving at Base Borden on Nov. 9, at 11:45 a.m. for a three- hour tour of the Base. The Princess will view a parachute drop by the Queen's Own Rifles of which she is colonel-in- chief. It is the 125th anniversary of the Queen's Own Rifles. Princess Alexandra is on a five day tour of Canada and husband the Hon. Angus Ogilvy will also be in attendance. CNIB reports $6,000 raised during month of October As of yesterday, the local branch of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind reports collecting $6,000 through its annual October fund raising campaign. The fund raisers said, "We wish to remind those who have donated in the past, and also those who may be donating for the first time, that the $19,000 goal is the budgeted cost of covering the wide range of CNIB services in this area." The Rebekahs are donating a lunch, and the Odd fellows in the Midland hall, for a meeting and party for the blind and visually impaired, and support staff volunteers, on Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Single-car crash A single-car accident occurred at the Matchedash Bay Bridge, Oct. 20. Driver Robert Vivian of Coldwater, was travelling northbound on Highway 69 when his car hit the guard rail, OPP report. His car then flipped into the southbound lane and slid on its roof coming to rest facing east and blocking northbound traffic. Two passengers, Zajac Milan of Scarborough and Feroux Lois of Port Severn sustained minor injuries and were taken to Huronia District Hospital by ambulance. Damage to the vehicle totalled $3,000. The driver was charged with impaired driving, excess alcohol and failure to wear a seatbelt. Both passengers were charged with seatbelt violations. Campaign on the way up Midland Y's Men's Club has again supported the annual YMCA Operating Campaign in a big way. The club recently voted to pledge to the current fund raising drive an amount of $16,500 which will give campaign officials a great start towards their $50,000 objective.
