Victoria Harbour woman escapes burning house The single-storey home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Elgart, at 50 Lighthouse Cres., in Victoria Har- bour, was partially destroyed by fire Monday afternoon. Sixteen Victoria Harbour volunteer firefighters responded to the alarm at 3:03 p.m. and fought the blaze until almost 4:30 p.m. Their prompt action prevented the fire, which apparently started in a downstairs fuse panel, from spreading beyond the basement. However, the fire department has recorded a damage estimate of $10,000, due largely to thick smoke which filled the entire house. Mrs. Elgart was in the building when she first noticed smoke, but she was able to escape without injury after sounding the alarm. Chief Jack Lachapelle, of the all volunteer Victoria Harbour Fire Department, expressed his special appreciation after the blaze for the businesses who excused his firefighters: TRW, Waltec Sinkware, Midland Industries, and PMCL.
