Vasey by CAROL GRAHAM ELEANOR EDWARDS The Vasey Women's Institute will meet in the Sunday School Rooms on Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. for a pot luck supper. Mr. and Mrs. Clare McKeown visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Brewster of Woodland Beach and on Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Sterling McDonald of Orillia visited with the McKeowns. The . Histerireal Committee of the Vasey United Church are sponsoring an Old Fashioned Christmas Concert on December 14 at 7:30 at the Church. This event concludes the 75 Anniversary celebrations for the church this year. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jones visited with their son Brad and wife Judy in Almonte during the past week. Gary and James Smitham of Wawa visited with their grandmother Mrs. Irene Smitham for a few days last week. Danielle, Maureen and Melissa Edwards of Orangeville were weekend guests with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Edwards. Margaret Doakes of Burlington visited with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Edwards on Sunday. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Smitham, Jessica and Ira visited with Mr. and Mrs. Don McKnight of Cookstown. Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Fleming of Stayner visited last Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Melvern Isaac. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The November meeting of the Vasey Women's Institute was held in the home of Mrs. Irene Smitham with fifteen members. at- tending. Plans were discussed for catering to the 4-H banquet and the Homemakers Christ- mas dinner. A questionnaire from F.W.1.0. was dealt with and questions an- swered. Miss Peggy Norton of the Huronia Hearing Impaired from Barrie, was our guest speaker for the evening. The Huronia Impaired started in February, 1984. Some of her remarks were, 10 percent of the population have a hearing loss. There are 2,000 deaf people in Ontario. Miss Norton brought with her a T.V.D. Machine and explained how it helps the deaf in using the telephone. There are dogs being trained-now, "The Hearing Dog Listen." Eleanor Edwards thanked the speaker. The larger the type of can, the fewer cans you'll VASEY 4-H CLUB The Vasey and District 4-H Calf Club CALF sponsored by the Tiny . and Tay Agricultural Society held their an- nual awards night on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Vasey United Church. Approximately 80 members and _ their families enjoyed a lovely turkey supper served by the Vasey Women's Institute. Michael Jones acted as chairman for the evening. The club members put on their demonstration called "High Tech Breeding"' which won the North Simcoe competition and then went on to the C,N-E. where they placed fourth. Reports were given by the members on the years ' activities which including the Provincial Leadership week camp, the Queen's Guineas, Silver $ Competition, Regional Conference, 4- H Sports Day, Judging Competition and the exchange Open House Canada. The top three club members were Kim Buchanan, Karen Graham and Michelle Jones. Other Club members were Larry Amos, John Armstrong, Chris Buchanan, Susan Huge crowds turn out to see Parade It's been estimated that between 5,000 and 7,500. Drysdale, April Graham, Chris Jones, Lee Anne Jones, Colleen Jones, Michael Jones, Cindy McConnell, Adam Mosley, Andy Robinson, Rob Widdes, Graeme Wood, Sheila Wood. A cash award was given to each member which had been donated by Local Organizations, Local Businessmen and the Tiny and Tay Agricultural Society. Mr. Orton Brown was present to give the Novice member with the Highest Score trophy to Michelle Jones. The Royal Bank Special Trophy was presented by Grant Robinson to Andy Robinson Boy with the Highest standing. Kim Buchanan received the Bank of Montreal special for the girl with the highest standing. The Elmvale Farm Supply (Ralston Purina) Special was presented to John Armstrong for Champion Showman. Mr. Everett Marshall presented the Black- burn Award to the most improved member to Karen Graham. In the Judging competition Susan Drysdale received the C.N.E. Shield for the Novice Division. Junior people braved the cold last Saturday to watch the Seventh Annual Midland Civitan Club's Santa Claus Parade work its way down King Street in Midland from the arena to the town dock. This awards night concluded a very successful year for the 4-H Calf Club and thanks was given to all those who helped the club members during the year with special thanks to the leaders Murray Jones and Jim Beck.
