pe et EERE RNeasy eS Tat Se Kenn Dumais The focus this week is on one of the carriers for the Penetanguishene Citizen. Kenn Dumais, 10, is one of the Citizen's newest paper carriers. He has delivered the Citizen for about one month and the Weekender asked him for an interview two weeks ago when he dropped by the Citizen office to drop off the money he collects from subscribers .every two weeks. The interview took place on Wed- nesday. Why did you decide to become a paper boy? "I wanted to do something challenging instead of drawing all my life," Kenn says. The grade five student at Corpus Christie School likes to do a lot of drawing and says that if he doesn't become a_ football player some day, he would perhaps become an artist. Kenn's specialty is drawing pictures of rock music groups. His drawings include ones of rock groups Kiss and Twisted Sister. How about Michael Jackson, the rage with kids these days? 'I can't stand Michael Jackson." Kenn's taste in rock groups runs more to heavy metal. He would like to play bass guitar some day. One of his hobbies is collecting records. "Any heavy metal," he says. Kenn also_ loves animals and draws pictures of them. Like a lot of boys his age, he also collects them. Kenn has one pet now, a cat named Fluffy. His parents have told him that when he _ passes grade five next spring, he can get some fish and an aquarium. In the summer, he collects crayfish and bugs. Kenn has collected praying mantisses and notes that when they are fed grasshoppers, the praying mantiss generally goes for the head first. Kenn's' favorite subjects at school are art, science and math. In his spare time, he likes to skate in winter and plays some football. Football "is rough." "Tt helps you to grow up to be pretty strong."' Kenn used to play ball hockey. His favorite hockey teams are the Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders. (If a Stanley Cup showdown between the two teams took place, Kenn would cheer for the Islanders, he says). The farthest Kenn has travelled from home is Toronto, where he has gone to see hockey games and rock con- certs. He has seen the groups Kiss and With Accept perform live. Kenn also- enjoys watching rock videos on television. Other favorite TV shows in- clude Saturday Night Live and The A Team. Kenn has lived in Penetanguishene all his life and was born at Penetanguishene General Hospital. He enjoys living in Penetang and, in fact, faults the town only for its distance from places iike Toronto where there are more rock concerts. There are lots of kids living in his neighbourhood, Brule Heights. Asked what he likes best about delivering newspapers, Kenn says: 'You meet new people and make new friends." The worst thing about delivering papers is "trying to get caught up on collecting." Kenn was asked if he reads the Citizen. He replied that mostly he reads the fliers and sometimes the news, especially when it contains items about his school and _ fellow students.
