It was Open House night and Harvest Festival Week at the school. Large crowds were out to meet teachers and Board members. Trustee Reverend S. Murphy celebrated the annual School Opening Mass at 8 p.m. The school choir sang a number of hymns during Mass. The Board Meeting followed. It began with pictorial welcome from students Robin Dewhurst and Debra Prezio. They were joined by Principal Lou Belcourt who welcomed the Board and introduced the members of the staff. In her opening remarks, Board Chairman Mary Jo Quilty of Midland thanked the large group of parents present for their support of the school. She noted, it was a milestone year beginning as it did with the historic visit of His Holiness Pope John Paul II. Mrs. Quilty expressed sincere appreciation to staff and students who contributed to the success of the visit. A preliminary draft sketch of an addition to St. Mary's School was also unveiled at the Board Meeting.
