Eo os er ee fo: DOR i cadil Argument commences about proposed motel opposite Highland An Ontario Municipal Board panel yesterday began its first day of hearing argument about an ap- plication to build a 180 room motel in Midland. Lawyers for James Ashworth of the Highland Motel last February filed an objection to a proposal to build a motel south of Heritage Drive from the Highland. Midland council had given its support to Pat's Con- struction's application to change the zoning of the land on which it proposes to build. In its application for an OMB hearing, Ashworth's lawyers gave the following reasons for a hearing. The proposed site of the new motel is zoned for industry. A motel would not fit, and its presence would discourage industries from building nearby. The town's official plan and zoning was designed to protect nearby im- portant and sensitive historical sites. A new motel cannot make money without taking business from existing motels. The existing motels which have expanded have done so in conformity with height restrictions. Ashworth objects to the height of the proposed new motel. Four days have been set aside for the hearing in Midland. SEPT. 30 Hillsdale Bicentennial Celebration is this Saturday, Sept. 29. 1 p.m. in the Community Park (rain date Sunday 30).
