oo Randy Butineau Sports Editor call 526-2283 Caswell's and Phelpston battle for SRFL RANDY erica The Simcoe Rural Fastball League final has been set and from all expectations, it should be a long and close series between Phelpston Minnings Electric Phillies and Caswell's Antiques A's. Last Thursday, Phelpston dropped Midland 3-1 to take the six point semi-final, seven points to five. As for Caswell's, the pesky Elmvale Mets evened their six point series last Thursday in Penetang with a 6-1 victory, thanks entirely to the two hit pitching performance by Tim Belcourt and two home runs by Ike Columbus. Mets scored two runs in each of the first three innings of the game and Belcourt had a perfect game going until the fourth inning. Caswell's scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Norm Ladouceur cracked a solo round tripper to break the shut out. Keith Williams surrendered eight hits, but errors proved costly Penetang curling club The directors of Penetanguishene Curling Club have hired Ron Bellisle of Penetang for a one-year term as manager of the club on Water Street. For the 1984-85 season, the directors decided to hire a. manager for a one-year contract to more ac- tively promote curling at the club. On Tuesday, Bellisle said that the club is attempting to set up an industrial league for non-members _ for Wednesday night curling. He said the club is looking for 12 teams to form a new industrial league. Interested parties, not necessarily just from Penetang, are en-' couraged to contact Bellisle at 549-7546. Midland curlers can call 526-7159.. These curlers will be accommodated on a first-come-first- for the A's on this night. Monday night in Elmvale was a different story. Caswell's put the bats to work and their all- star hurler, Kurt Glover was on the mound, which paced the A's to an impressive 6-2 vic- tory over the hometown Mets. Glover shone once again on the mound for the A's, striking out eight and only allowed four Mets hit. Tim Belcourt was on the hill for Elmvale once again. Belcourt struck out two and allowed six hits. Most of the damage was done by John Moreau, who hit a bases loaded single in the third inning, which scored everyone on base. Mets held a 2-0 lead at that point in the game. Dan Tinney knocked in both Elmvale runs with a single in the second inning, which scored the two base runners on the paths at the time. Bob Valentine helped Caswell's cause with a two run double in the serve basis. Bellisle begins as manager Sept. 17. He said ice-making is scheduled to begin Oct. fourth inning. Caswell's took the six point series seven points to five. Caswell's-Phelpston series will begin Thursday night at McGuire Park, with a 7:30 p.m. start. A's coach, Mike Desroches, expects this series to be a pitching duo, as both clubs own excellent pitching staffs. Every department on both clubs are very even,so this series could take a while to deter- mine a winner. Vill isis pe Lg (pee to ZS teiy!
