ai I by DOUG REED The fruits of the labour of two very enterprising 29-year-old North Simcoe County residents is to be marketed later this month. MARTYRS' SHRINE is the title of an 80-page photo-packed public- ation Michael Odesse of Penetanguishene and John Roach of Midland have produced. The photographs are by well known Canadian colour photographer Odesse while the production fell to Roach, a _ printing company execulive. More than a year in planning, MARTYRS' SHRINE is literally a stimulating walk through Canada's alional Shrine dedicated to this country's eight mar tyrs. The Shrine, located in Tay Township just east of Midland on High way 12, altracts as many as 300,000 visitors a year from all walks of life and from all faiths. Forward as well as much of the text was written by Father James J. Farrell, S. J., director of Martyrs' Shrine and co-ordinator of this year's (Sept. 15 Papal Visit to Huronia of Pope John Paul II. The book is a living testimony of the humility of those first Jesuit missionaries who first visited this part of the world in the early 1600's. Photographs for MARTYRS' SHRINE were taken by Odesse in all kinds of weather and during all four seasons of the year which makes the book even more of a spiritual discovery. To date 20,000 copies of the book which will sell for $15.95 each have been printed. A second and possibly even a third printing has been predicted for MAR TYRS' SHRINE which captures in pictures and in print all of those things one would ex perience first hand if one was to visit the Shrine located at the very Gateway to the 30,000 Islands of Southern Georgian Bay right in the very Heart of Huronia. The book, in meticulous detail, takes you 10 every nook and cranny of the Shrine and introduces you to the grounds surrounding the Church of the Martyrs which is the gem in the Shrine's crown, Outstanding Promoter! Fears of an explosion were very real after car backs into Dock's propane tank by PETER SPOHN Cooking of hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries came to an abrupt halt Saturday night_ around the dinner hour at the Dock Lunch in Penetanguishene after a car backed into a propane tank al the rear of the waterfront restaurant causing fears of a gas explosion. A pipe connected to the tank carrying propane to ranges inside the restaurant was ruptured in the mishap which occurred at around 7 p.m. Cooking ceased for the next three hours while a Superior Propane crew from Barrie was dispatched to repair the damage. "We can laugh about it now but it wasn't funny then,' Dock Lunch owner, Nick Boudouris,. commented on Monday about the danger the gas leak posed. He shut down the restaurant im- mediately after the mishap occurred. '"The whole area smelled of gas," the restaurant owner said. Boudouris said 17 employees were working al the restaurant and estimated that there were about "100 people in the area when the mishap occurred. The vehicle that hit the tank was owned and operated by Richard Quinn of Owen Street, Penetang. Wednesday, June 27, 1984, Page 3
