Announcement of the three-piece memorial was Made in Orillia on Monday at a news conference co-hosted by Officials from the Shrine and from Sanderson Monument Company Limited. The monument company, manufact- urers Of cemetery and civic memorials revealed this week: O The site for the monument has been chosen at a_heart- shaped piece of land near the highest point of land, at the Shrine. The site symbolically overlooks the Martyrs' Shrine church, grounds, the field, and altar where the Pope will be making his address Q From any angle the monument is viewed the significance Of the visit and the heritage and Significance of the Shrine will be evident QO The monument features. three _ in- dividual granite pieces representing the symbolism and theme of the Papal visit. This stone will be at the head of the drive as one approaches the site. The shape of the stone is symbolic of the tiara Q The second graniie stone will show the symbols of martyrdom - the palm and crown - the ultimate sacrifice for faith delicately carved into the granite and will mark the Location of the visit - the Martyrs' Shrine - as One views the symbolism - and wor- ding - they will overlook the church itself and grounds of the Shrine 0 The third granite stone will feature wording in French, English and Huron - outlining an Explanation and also symbolizes the Heritage of the Area - as one turns from the other two stones to view this stone - they will overlook the Papal altar. The demonstration project involves Ford Canada and Shell Canada Limited. The 16 factory- modified Ford Escort sedans will run On a methanol fuel for- mulation developed by Page 12, Wednesday, February 29, 1984 Methanol fuel demonstration gets support from top brass Shell Canada Limited. Methanol is an excellent clean-burning auto- motive fuel produced on a large scale in Western Canada from natural gas. It has the potential to be produced from indigenous Ontario feedstocks, such as lignite and peat, and from renewable resOurces, such as wood. "Methanol is widely believed to be a viable alternative to gasoline in Canada,' Chretien said. "Major efforts are underway in California and Europe to demonstrate and commercialize meth- anol in transportation. In Canada, interest is kindled by the need for long-term energy security"'. The demonstration fleet will. be divided between Ford Canada and Shell Canada Limited for a year and will be tested in their day-to-day Operations.
