spring next week at the CNE In the middle of a long, harsh winter an early touch of spring is coming to Toronto, It's Garden Festival *84, at Exhibition Place, from Wednesday, Feb. 22 to Sunday, Feb. 26 Garden Festival is actually two shows in one. The Flower and Garden Show will fi!l the Automotive Building with fragrant blooms, exotic plants and hundreds of ideas for the home gardener. The latest in swim- ming pools, hot tubs and spas will be displayed at The Pool and Spa Show in the Queen Elizabeth Building. At The Flower and Garden Show a com- puter will be available to help plan backyard vegetable gardens. It will tell the gardener how far apart to plant seeds and how many feet of seed to plant to feed a specific family. The Civic Garden Centre and other garden clubs will be showing miniature roses, exhibits from the Green Thumb Junior Garden Club and education displays for both the beginner and advanced gardener. The Niagara Parks Commission and several large garden centres will have massive exhibits of flowers and plants in the central area of the building. Once again, flowers and plants will be auctioned off at the Dutch Clock Auction where the clock runs backward as_par- ticipants signal their bids. A new hybrid tea rose in a delicate coral shade has been created to commemorate the September visit of Pope John Paul II to Canada. Photographs of the rose will be on display in the central area of the Automotive Building. The Flower and Garden Show will in- clude an entire street of townhouse facades with ideas on how to land- scape and decorate the property.
