More candidate areas added Liquid industrial waste treatment facilities A nine-square km. area within the City of Brampton's northern boundaries has been added to the candidate areas already under consideration, as possibly containing sites for liquid industrial wasle treatment facilities, Dr. DA. Chant, Chairman and President of the Ontario Waste Management Corporation (OWMC) announced today. This area is now being considered in the same detail as 19 other can- didate areas within the Golden Horseshoe announced by OWMC last May. At that time, other areas within the Golden Horseshoe that con- tained unsuitable soil conditions were ex- cluded from further consideration. "We indicated in May, however, that we would be taking a closer look at some of these areas north of Lake Ontlario, stretching from Brampton in the west to Oshawa in the east, to inake sure we did not overlook any small parcels of suitable land, particularly --_ industri- ally-designated land," Dr. Chant explained. The identification of this new candidate area is the result of this closer, detailed analysis. It contains peolopgic and lydrogeologic condi- tions which may !make if Quiz Answers 1. Good work Jack! gains support for custom application A custom service at the Huronia Airport would benefit business and industry, including tourism, and increase revenue at the airport, says Steve Quaife, Huronia Airport Manager. In a letter seeking support from Tiny Township Council for the establishment of the airport as a Port of Entry, Quaife listed some advantages of such a service. It would reduce costs for the business and industrial communities, by eliminating the necessity of landing at another airport which provides the service and the wait for another Air Traffic Control Clearance. Having a custom service at the airport would attract American tourists, Quaife said. Revenue would be increased through additional fuel sales, tie down fees, and _ aircraft maintenance. All these improvements would be in the interest of the taxpayers who support the Airport, he added. The Custom service requested is on a "call out"? basis, between 9 a.m. to 5 m. Council of the Township of Tiny supports the idea and joins other local cna gla in support of the proposal. Page 22, Wednesday, January 18, 1984 suitable for siting OWMC. treatment facilities. It is located within the northern boundaries of the City of Brampton, and stretches from Highway No. 7 on the east to Mayfield Road on the west (Brampton- Caledon Municipal Boundary). "TI want to stress that this announcement simply adds another candidate area to the 19 already being con- sidered, and is not.a site announcement. Although all or part of this area may be eliminated when further site selection factors are considered, we feel it is only fair to let the public know that we = are considering it, together with the other candidate areas already iden- tified,' Dr. Chant ex- plained. OWMC consultants are presently collecting, inapping and analyzing local, regional and provincial data On many site selection factors for each of the 20 candidate areas within the Golden Horseshoe. These factors include local land use, tran- sportation, agriculture, environmental and socio-economic cons- iderations. This process will take several weeks to complete, and will resull in ~- the 9 an- nouncement of specific candidate sites in a public report. Detailed, on-the-land studies of these sites will then follow, prior to the preparation of OWMC's formal proposals to an independent hearing panel. , OWMC is a provincial crown A PeeNeG.
