Draws are Lad Crusaders spiked St. Theresa's High School Lady Crusaders Senior Girls Volleyball Team travelled to Seneca College on the weekend to compete in a volleyball tournament at the college. <= Crusaders made a strong showing at the tour- ney, losing in the finals to St. Joseph's of North_ Bay. St. T's were in a pool with St. Joseph's, Sir Sanford Fleming in Oakville and their arch rivals from MSS. MSS finished second, while St. T's finished in third spot in the pool. The semi-final game featured St. T's_against their friends from MSS. Crusaders had a debt to . score with the MSS gals, when MSS defeated St. T's inthe MVC Tournament a week and a half ago. The match went to three games and all were exciting, as the scores would indicate. The scores were 15-13, 12-15 and 15-10. Crusader coach Jeanne Goodrow said the team played together as a unit and were able to pull themselves out of their little slumps and play aggressively against the strong MSS attack. "There were good rallies throughout the match with both teams coming up with the big plays," Goodrow said. : In the finals against St. Joseph's, Goodrow said her Crusaders came up flat after the match with MSS. In the round robin play the games with St. Joseph's were closer, however, they took the final in two straight games. The Crusaders didn't go away empty handed. Maureen Jaeger and Paula Denis were named to the tournament Allstar team. Goalie Jason Nicoll turned aside all but one of the shots fired at him during the match doing de Very Satine job discouraging the op- position. The next game saw the boys in blue meet up with Penetang on their home ice. There was no doubt about this game as the Midland squad trounced Penetany 9-1. Goals came from Sean Lavin assisted by Mike Boyd and Steve Grahain, Randy Tipper assisted by Chris Bales, Sean Lavin again assisted by Mike Boyd, Dan Reidell assisted by Steve Graham and Scott Cooper. Steve Graham assisted by. Chris Diesveld, Dan Reidell again, assisted by Chris Bales, Sean Lavin for his hat trick assisted by Chris Leanard. Scott Cooper assisted by Steve Graham and Steve Graham assisted by Seott Cooper and Randy Tippin. The lone goal scored by Penetang came from the stick of Francois Charlebois assisted by Trevor St. Amant and Tim Maheu. Goalies enetsy Waltenbury and Jason Nicoll both shared the duties between the pipes. The third game of their road trip saw the Little Lake BP Major Atoms travel all the way to Owen Sound to take a 5-3 loss (yes we do lose a few!) This match up saw Owen Sound take a three goal lead before Midland finally put one in off the stick of Steve Graham unassisted on a rink long rush. However, Owen Sound regrouped about a minute later to make it 4-1 in the dying minutes of the second period. Owen Sound again ade their presence felt as they scored within the first minute of the third to make it 5-1. Ouly then did Midland finally wake up and see the "bear" as they out hustled Owen Sound and resulted in a goal from Steve Grahain assisted by Randy Tippin. Still the boys pressed on and Mike Boyd found the mark assisted by Chris Larmand. However time ran out and Midland was handed their first defeat in regular scheduled play to Owen Sound. Owen Sound returns to Midland in the near future for a return match. Age 30-39 1. Janet Findlay, 45:11; 2. Tice Cameron, 52:14; 3. Beth Moxley, 53:11; Men's 3x5 km cross-country Age 65-69 1.
