sp te Theresa's Crusaders Midget and Junior Boys' Basketball Teams played host to ESPSS, last Thursday, at St. Theresa's. St. T's Midget Boys' led by Cory King's 25 points, were a _ 60-46 winner Over the visiting ESPSS squad. Coach Owen Quilty said the first line was very dominate and scored points at will. "The game was more competitive when substitutions were placed into the game,"' Quilty added. "The team played very aggressively on defense," he said Thursday. Mike Quilty netted 12 points for the winners. High shooter for ESPSS was Yen Fook-Lo with 11 points. St. T's Junior Boys' team were not quite as fortunate. ESPSS were able to hold off a strong fourth quarter surge by St. T's and won the game 54-46. "Both teams played an exceptional game with very few fouls committed," said Crusader coach Brent Hamelin. Dan Switzer was the big shooter for St. T's, netting 16 points. Doug Haworth added nine points. Bayfield scored 18 points to lead the way for ESPSS. Area 3 champs Midland, Parry Sound knot at three Midland Stoneleigh Centennials travelled to Parry Sound, Sunday afternoon, where they battled to a 3-3 tie with the Shamrocks. Cents held a 3-1 lead until the half way mark of the second period. Parry Sound opened the first period scoring, at 8:36, but Midland's John Walter tied the score two minutes later, from Mike Newhouse and Chris Readman. Then at 12:30, - Rob Rinneard gave the Centennials a 2-1 lead going into the second period. Marlon Gieseler set up the goal. Midland were outshot 20-14 in the first frame. Midland took a 3-1 lead, with Rinneard's second goal of the game, at 4:30. Shawn Davy and Gieseler collected the assists. The Shamrocks closed the margin to 3-2, at 10:36 and tied the score four minutes later, on a disputed goal. The puck hit the cross-bar, but did not enter the net. Parry Sound outshot Midland 18-16. There was no scoring in the final stanza, with both teams having numerous chances to break the tie. Midland fired 11 shots to Parry Sound's nine. The three period total was 47-41 in Parry Sound's favour. As unbelievable as it may sound, the game featured no penalties. Cents' coach Ross McConnell said some penalties could have been called, but the referee let the two teams play hockey. McConnell added, both teams played well and it was a very even contest. Cents' next game is Friday night, at the Midland ice palace, against the Oro 77's. Game time is 8:30 p.m. 1 stunned in Stayner chances.
