North Simcoe news briefs Wood exhibition tour begins in Ontario The exhibition of the work of William _J. Wood of Midland, at the Art Gallery of Ontario until last Sunday, received half a page in the Saturday Globe and Mail, the day before the end of the exhibition. The Wood exhibition opened Oct. 21. The exhibition, more than 100 examples from Wood's long career, the majority of which have been collected by former Midlander Walling Ruby, now will be taken around the country, to stops which include the Swift Current National Exhibition Centre, Thunder Bay National Exhibition Centre, Timmins Museum, and Art Gallery of Peterborough. Roxy and BIA are to team up The place to be this Saturday afternoon is the Roxy Theatre in Midland. That's when Midland BIA will sponsor a free 1 p.m. matinee. Youngsters can pick up passes for the show at downtown stores in Midland. Bake sale for bowlers A bake sale will be held at the Mall in Penetanguishene on Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary for Penetang Youth Bowling Club. Hillsdale Santa Claus Parade set for Sat. The sixth annual Santa Claus Parade will be held in Hillsdale on Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 12 noon. The parade will organize at Rumble's Mill and will end at the public school, where Santa will greet the children and distribute bags of candy. Everyone is encouraged to attend and help iiake this parade the biggest and best ever. Santa on Ice Elmvale and District Lions Club and Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 262, Elmvale, are sponsoring a Christmas Skating Party to be held at the Elmvale Arena on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 2to4p.m. There will be treats for the children from Santa himself. That's the question that the Penetanguishene Chamber of Commerce is asking these days, as once again it has un- dertaken the huge task of organizing the fun- filled February festival. Protestant Board trustees elected Trustees for the Penetanguishene Protestant Separate School Board were elected on Monday, Nov. 15, for a two-year term. Council meets next Mon. night There's to be a regular meeting of town council in Midland next Monday night, starting at 7:30 p.m. One of the controversial items will deal with a finance committee recommendation that Alderman Miles Blackhurst sit on the Papal Visit to Huronia Committee. Midland Mayor Al Roach has been sitting on the committee however there are those on council who feel the mayor needs a watch dog. Donations asked of church members Parishioners of St. Margaret's Church in Midland are being asked to donate canned food, children's knitted clothing, or toys to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is in the midst of its annual assembly of Christmas hampers. The Army expects to distribute 450 hampers in the week before Christmas. St. Margaret's parishioners are asked to bring their donations to their church's front door on White Gift Sunday.
