Until Wednesday, have a nice weekend! SCOUTING AROUND SCOUTS CANADA by Harry Brown Many times information comes to us from individual groups about their activities. Today, the report begins with an article on J.O.T.A. Jamboree Of the Air..Thanks to Dave Robertson. J.O.T.A. is a joint effort between Boy Scouts of Canada and local Ham (Amateur) Radio Operators. This year Five Scout Troops and Two Venturer Conipanies were involved together with Five Radio Operators. The radios were based in Port MeNicoll, Midland and Wyevale Thirty five boys took part in the endeavor lor a total of fifteen hours. They talked to many Scout Groups in Europe, Great Britain, United States and all across Canada. One of these groups was a Camp of 500 boys. They shared experiences and ideas. For these boys who were involved, it was a great day of togetherness in Scouting and a thrilling experience. We are very grateful to the Radio operators for their help and for the time they volunteered to help us. Port McNicoll Scouts were on their first hike of the year (For this season) Nine boys and three leaders spent the weekend camping near Wyevale. Thanks to John McGowan for allowing use of the property. The weather was vreal and a full program made the weekend exciting Six of the boys enjoyed their first ex- perience as Scouts. New Leaders Jim Lamoureux and Bill Tanner handled their duties like veterans Port Scouts are fortunate in having these men as their Leaders. Plans are already developing for a winter camp and a canoe trip in the spring. And a word of reluctant farewell and good wishes in Scouting. In 1976 a Scouter came to me and said, 'I'm available" Naturally we found a place for him. He became the Leader and Re-activated with us the First Midland Cubs, later encouragement from him spurred the Scout Troop into being and through the years, despite changes in his work schedule, he has continued to help wherever needed..at camps, snow frolics, apple days. In short, we have counted on him. We have counted on him and he has come through. Now, after these 7 years, business pressures have caused Bob Hoadley to resign as Leader. South Georgian Bay District and ist Midland express our regrets and hope that you'll look in on us now and then, Bob. You'll be welcome! HURONIA PLAYERS PRESENT... J.
