Penetanguishene Vol. 16, No. 39, Folio 77 \ 4 Za 4 'Wednesday, September 28, 1983 { Citizen 28 pages, 40 cents McLean hails new police van 'Will provide major savings in police manpower,' MPP Allan McLean (MPP Simcoe East) said today that a new prisoner van supplied by the Ontario Provincial Police will provide major savings in police manpower and vehicle expenses in the area. "This will be a definite plus for policing in Orillia and area," said Mr. McLean, who had been vocal in his support for the van, which should also save taxpayers' dollars in policing costs. The van was placed at the Orillia detachment to cope with the substantial numbers of prisoners being transported from Orillia to Barrie and back. "Prisoners arrested in the Orillia area must be held in the Barrie jail for court appearances then have to be brought back to Orillia,' Mr. McLean said. "With the larger number of prisoners ac- commodated in the new van there will be a saving in Manpower and vehicle expenses." Staffing of the van will be shared between both police forces and the O.P.P. will assume main- tenance and running costs. With its members having such a wide range of skills and interests, the club tries to provide something for everyone. Club nights may include instruction on some particular aspect of photography, possibly a workshop where everyone brings their camera, or often a slide show presentation by either a club member or a special guest. Club and regional competitions allow members to show their own work and to learn from the techniques of others. Midland wants Oak Ridge Midland wants to continue to be responsible for responding to fire alarms originating from the Oak Ridge division of the Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre. The Ministry of Health hosted a meeting on Sept. 15 at which the idea of giving the responsibility to Penetanguishene was discussed. The Penetanguishene Fire Department makes frequent trips to the Mental Health Centre in response to alarms which almost invariably do not require any action. It goes by Oak Ridge on its way. Midland wants the arrangement to stay as it is because a change in the monetary terms of the agreement with Tay might mean Midland is "shortchanged, as certain responsibilities will continue under the Mutual Aid System."
