by DENNIS BRABANT The 1983-1984 bowling season has kicked off another campaign with both the Midland and 'Penetanguishene bowling alleys reporting that almost all leagues are returning at full strength. The Midland Bowling alley will have ap- proximately 725 adults and 100 children registered for league play, while the Penetanguishene lanes will have 525 adults and 75 children registered. _Anyone interested in bowling in a league should leave their name with the alley manager indicating what nights you prefer to bowl and perhaps a spot can be found for you now or later when an opening arises. Midland Youth Bowling Council is still looking for junior age bowlers ages 12 to 15 to bowl Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone interested can come down to the bowling alley on Saturday morning to register. Midland-Penetang 5-Pin Association held its annual meeting last week and is pleased to announce that all of last years executive is. returning and welcomes Harvey & Jean Stevens as new members of the board. Members of the executive are as follows: President and Tournament Director, Dennis Brabant; Membership, Jean Stevens; Treasurer, JoAnne Lapensee; Secretary and Lottery, Pauline Brabant; Awards and. Crests, Gerald Lesperance; Assistant Tournament Director, Harvey Stevens; Vice-. President, Debbie Chadwick and Directors, J.P. Desroches and Albert Morin. Leagues will be approached by the end of September to join the local bowling association with the entry fee once again being $3. for regular bowlers and $1 for senior citizens. f Several leagues have agreed to enter their bowlers 100 percent into the association with the newest addition this year being the Friday Niters league in Midland. AROUND THE LEAGUES The bowling season started off with some excellent bowling last week as follows: Ken Morin started his first game with eight strikes in a row to finish with a 352 single in Midland Industrial League action. Paul Buttineau of the Midland Friday Nighters mixed league rolled 10 strikes in his game with only one open frame to end up with a dazzling 375 single to round out an excellent 821 triple. Mike Lepage (343), Bill Puddicombe (337) and J. P. Desroches (335) hit for big scores also in Midland industrial League action. a Kings open camp _Penetang Junior Kings, defending Georgian Bay Junior C League champions, will open their 1983-84 cee camp next Wednesday night at p.m. Junior aged hockey players (born in 1963 or later) are invited to try out at the Penetang Arena, providing the ice is ready by then. Players are asked to bring all their own equipment to the practice. Bowling a Grade 8 student at Midland's Bayview School set some sort of a record this year for a first- in Penetanguishene's Youth Bowling Council in this her initial year of competition, she took the junior high singles crown at the K. \ She bowis 'em over Fuller Avenue resident Wendy of C. Lanes. As well, the team she bowls with notched second spot. However there's more: she placed first recently at district competitions in Coldwater in her division and then went on to Toronto where whe placed a respectable sixth in provincial matches. That's some bowling, eh! Friendship night planned We have a theme song that's called "'A song of Friendship'? and we're offering any ladies that are interested, an evening of both song and friendship. The Georgian Bay Belles, who are Midland's chapter of Harmony Incoporated, is a group of very friendly women of all ages who enjoy singing barbershop harmony. In previous years we have sung at a number of functions around town and have competed against other chapters in our area. Next Wednesday evening we're having a special Guest Night at 'to sing.
