Hurons Gym Club looking for help The Hurons Gym- nastics Club is looking for coaches and supervising help for the upcoming fall and winter sessions. The Hurons run a variety of gymnastics programs, varying in degrees <of skills and levels of competition. Last year the club had approximately 20 coaches and helpers associated with it, but through education commitments and re- locations, several of these people will not be available for the new season. Replacements are badly needed to keep this successful gymnastics program running smoothly. Here are some of the different programs being offered by the Hurons Gym Club in the 1983-84 season. The newest program being offered is a recreational gymna- sties session for high schoo] students. It will be run on Thursday nights, from 6:30. p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Corpus Christi Public School in Penetanguishene. This would be a well attended, very useful session, but the club needs one or more Paula Denis going to Ont. Summer Games - on Region 5 volleyball team by RON JOHNSON Paula Denis, a 16- year-old, grade 11 student from St. Theresa's High School in Midland, has been chosen for one of the regional volleyball teams that will be competing at the Ontario Summer Games over the Labour Day Weekend in Sudbury, Ontario. After hearing about the tryouts for the team from STHS teammate Maureen Jaeger, Denis and two other local girls, Lisa Quesnelle of STHS and _ Renaty Friedrich of MSS, ventured to Toronto to attempt to make the squad. Paula Denis survived a very competitive selection camp to make the Region Five team that is going to Sudbury. Next step is to go to the final training camp at Madawaska, Ontario. This camp: is final preparations for the games, and begins this Sunday, Aug. 28 and runs to next Thursday. The Ontario Summer Games run from Sep- tember 2 to September 5 in Sudbury. About her selection to the Region 5 team, Paula Denis had this to say. "The tryouts were very tough, with several girls from the Cardinal Newman High School team which won the OFSAA volleyball title last year, as well as Keego trio off to Sudbury Three Midland Y Keego swimmers will be leaving on Sunday Aug. 28 for Sudbury to participate in the Ontario Summer Games. Andre Bourrie, Tim Bourrie and Lise Magnan were chosen as members of the Huronia Team based on their performances at the Huronia Regional Championships. They will attend a one-week training camp at Laurentain University where they will be billeted. Opening ceremonies for the games will be on Fri. Sept. 2 at the Sudbury Arena with the swimming competition taking place at Laurentian's Olympic size pool on Sept. 3 and 4. Numerous activities have been planned for the week and as members of the team Lise, Tim and Andre will be receiving a free Speedo Swim suit, T-shirts and track suit. "I feel really proud and just a bit surprised to be on the team"' explained Denis. Paula Denis will make the St. Theresa's High School Crusaders senior team _ even tougher than it usually is, and that spells trouble for other local teams. adults to supervise it at the school. Without volunteers this course may not get off the ground. For the competitive gymnasts, there is the Hurons Gymnastics Team which is associated with the Metro West region of the Ontario Gymnastics Federation. This team has a pre- competition group for budding young gym- nasts who are not quite ready for official competitions.
