SRFL playoffs all tied up After Monday night's playoff games in the Simeoe Rural Fastball League, three of the four opening round series are tied at one game each, Phelpston Hotel Phillies and Vasey Seniors squared off last night in Vasey and no score was available. Vasey won the first game of the best-of- three set 5-4 last Thursday in Phelpston, as Bob Widdes got the win over Frank Min- nings. First-place Midland Athenian Raiders got beat Monday by Hillsdale 8-6 in Hillsdale to even their series. Mark Ronald, in relief of Joe Matheson got the win over Ted Preston, who was_ relieving Bruce Githrie. Wayne King blasted a three-run homer for Midland, and Dan Breeden helped Hillsdale with a bases loaded double to score three runs. In the opener last Thursday, Midland beat the Hustlers 4-2 at home, as Guthrie out- dueled Matheson for the win. Third and final game of the series goes tomorrow night in Midland. In the Wyebridge Warriors-Elmvale Expos series, Elmvale got back into it on Monday with a 4-2 win. Leo Belcourt beat Paul Rowe in the game, which saw Wyebridge errors cost them a win. Warriors Opened the set last week with a 6-0 shutout by Rowe. Bob Dutton slammed a homer for the Warriors. Caswell's Antiques of Penetang evened their series with Vasey Royals at one game apiece Monday night in vasey by beating the Royals 3-1 behind Kurt Glover. E]mvale earned the right to be in the final with two victories earlier in the day. In their first game, the Angels took a 5-2 lead into the final inning Only to squeak a 5-4 win as their opponent Perry Island staged a comeback. For the Angels, Brenda Columbus had a solo homerun in the third inning and a two run single in the fourth to score the winning runs. Debbie Charman went two for three at the plate scoring two runs. JoAnne McGinnis was the winning pitcher for Elmvale. In the second game against Newmarket, the game remained scoreless until the third when Debbie Smith lead off with a single, was sacrificed over to third and scored on a double by Debbie Charman. One run was enough as the Angels held on for a 1-0 victory. Anna Storeywas the winning pitcher for the Angels. This victory put the Angels into the finals against Orillia who had defeated Queens Hotel of Barrie in the semi-final game. In the championship game, Orillia was lead by the home run hitting of Nancy Bell who drove in three runs with two home runs to vault Orillia into a commanding 6-0 lead after 22 innings of play. Elmvale began their comeback in the home-half of the third inning. JoAnne McGinnis and Debbie Charman got on base with singles and were brought home on a three run home run by Brenda Columbus to make the score 6-3 after 3 innings. In the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly by Brenda Columbus brought in the Angels fourth run followed by a run scoring riple by Tricia Downey anda RBI single by Fran Jordan to tie the game 6- 6. : Orillia went ahead in the sixth inning 7-6 but the Angels rallied in their half of the sixth on run scoring triples by Deb Charman and Brenda Columbus, to take an 8-7 lead into ther seventh inning. JoAnne McGinnis, who had come into the game in the third inning to relieve starter Anna Storey combined with the Angel's defence to hold off Orillia and earn the tournament victory. The Angels were very satisfied with the comeback effort and were more than deserving of the championship trophy and $500 first prize in this one day eight team tournament. Elmvale has now taken the title three of the five years the tour- nament has been running. Diggers winit ! Rankin shuts out Ron's 3-0 by Jamie Robillard The tide has finally turned in Penetang- Midland Ball Hockey.
