More than 100 boats in tomorrow's sail past Rendezvous '83 One of the finest collection of boats to visit the Midland area will form a colourful sail past on Saturday as part of this weekend's Great Lakes Cruising Club rendezvous at the Wye Heritage Marina. It's estimated that well over 100 boats will file past the Midland town dock starting at 2 p.m. The official podium will be headed by Commodore Edward F. Classen of the Great Lakes Cruising Club who will take the salute from each of the participating boats. "The sail past will feature vessels of all sizes and descriptions from small sailboats to elaborate yachts and I know the spectators will be most impressed with the array of boats,' commented Dave Hudson, chairman of the Midland organizing committee. The sail past is espected to last at least an hour and the public is invited to view the parade of boats from any one of the town docks. Rendezvous '83 concludes on Sunday with the majority of the boats docked at the Wye Heritage Marina and the remaining few at the Midland town dock. It's anticipated that more than 400 people will participate in Rendezvous '83 and the schedule of events includes a banquet at the Budd Watson Gallery and tours of the Mar- yrs' Shrine, Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, the Wye Marsh Wildlife Interpretation Centre, the Historic Naval and Military Establishments, Huronia Museum and the Huronia Indian Village. "A small group of people from the 'local community have worked energetically, on their own time, to help prepare for this ren- dezvous and, judging from the predicted turnout and general response to date, there's every indication this will be one of the most successful rendezvous' to date," Hudson said. The Midland committee established sub- groups to handle transportation, tours and promotion and public relations. Their work was made possible as a result of grants from the Town of Midland, Tay Township, Midland Chamber of Commerce, Midland Business Improvement Association, Wye Heritage Marina and the Midland Harbour Committee. Citizen Briefly Improvements around the town While one group of workmen is renovating and expanding the front of Penetanguishene's arena; under the NEED job creation program, another group has made im- provements to the arena's boiler room, storage room for the Zamboni -ice cleaner, and the bleachers, under the COED job creation program. Down at the town dock, planters and three flagpoles will be constructed soon. Singing dog part of act Country and western singer Marie King, her husband, daughter, and her singing dog, backed by three more musicians, will be playing in the Penetanguishene Curling Club on July 30. The French Centre-sponsored event is one = of the events to take place during Penetanguishene Summerama '83. Tickets are $4 at the door but less expensive if purchased in advance. 30 years for Bill and still going strong Members of the Midland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police held a surprise party this month for Bill Jarman of Victoria Harbour. Jarman has been a civilian radio dispat- cher with the detachment since 1953. He first served with the force in the Harbour until it moved to Midland in 1965. Congratulations, Bill. Deceased man's name released Midland OPP, late Wednesday afternoon, released the name of the man who was killed late Monday night in Port MeNicoll as a result of a motor-cycle accident. Police say Murray Ross Rowland, 23, of Con. 4, Tay Township, was pronouced dead at HDH where he was rushed by ambulance suffering major injuries. Model boats from the Ontario Science Centre, such as the one show» above, will be on display as part of the fourth annual "Liberty Days" on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24 at the Historic Naval and - FRANCOPHONE TOURISM ON THE INCREASE Quebec contacts pay off the Centre on July 18.
