Hotel Phelpston Phillies rode the right arm of Frank Minnings {o a win and a tie in two Simcoe Rural Fastball League games in the past week. Last Thursday they edged Elmvale Expos 1- () aS Finnings outdueled Leo Belcourt of the Expos. Monday night they tied Hillsdale Hustlers 2-2. Mark Ronald was on the hill for Hillsdale and took a disappointing tie as his leam was unable to score a runner from third in the last inning with none out. Hillsdale managed only a tie in their other game last Thursday. Perkinsfield Dial-a- Movie Bantus scored in the last inning to gain a 5-5 draw. Andre Quesnelle pitched for Bantus, while Ronald and Joe Matheson shared the duties for the Hustlers. Midland Athenian Raiders moved up in the standings with a pair of convincing victories. Last Thursday they shutout Vasey Royals 6- 0 as Arlo Guthrie tossed the goose egg for the Raiders, and Steve Tumber took the loss for the Royals. Monday night Ted Preston got the win and also hit a homerun as the Raiders demolished Caswell's Antiques in a sloppily played game 15- 7. Louis Belcourt took the loss for the Penetang team but was the victim of a porous defence. Another Monday night contest saw Elmvale Expos move closer to a playoff berth by beating Perkinsfield 4-1 in Elmvale. Leo Belcourt recorded the win, and Ernie Quesnelle took the loss. Mets also lost their other outing of the week, as they got crunched 10- 1 by Vasey seniors on Monday night. Bob Widdes got the win, as Vasey finally found some offence and chalked up their fifth win of the year. Vasey moved into a good position in the hunt for the playoffs as they won both their games.in the last seven days. Besides trouncing Elmvale Mets, they slipped by Wyevale last Thursday in Vasey by a 2-0 count. Bob Widdes & SFRL Spotlight ~Phelpston holds first, Vasey makes a move: threw the shutout, and Bob Lapham took the loss for the Hawks.
