There will be two courses, one in ar- chaeological laboratory methods and a second in archaeological field methods. They will be taught from July 4 to August 16 as part of Laurier's off-campus summer session. Dean Knight, the archaeologist in charge of the dig, said nine previous summer's work have resulted in the excavation of half the site. The threat follows from a decision that the committee made to divide the space in the ticket booth at the town dock between rival cruise boat operators which put one of the operators at a disadvantage. The committee met in a special, closed, meeting last Thursday. The next day, com- mittee spokesman Dean Nicholls said only that a meeting had occurred, and that the lawyer of Tom Gostick, the boat owner who has raised the prospect of legal action, would be informed in writing of the committee's reaction. Yesterday, Gostick's administrator, June Trusty, said that the lawyer had received a letter to the effect that a meeting had been held and that the lawyer could expect another letter. The committee upset Gostick by giving the front of the ticket' booth to his competitor, Penetang-Midland Coach Lines, operator of the Miss Midland. The rear of the ticket booth was given to Gostick, operator of the Lady Midland. Gostick had suggested the building could be altered at little cost to give both operators ticket windows facing the people walking onto the dock. PMCL was given the better location, the committee said earlier, because its boat has always been moored closer to the land than the Miss Midland. Until last summer both boats were owned and operated by Jack Frame. ute Tay accounts passed At the regular meeting of the Tay Township municipal council on Thursday, May 12, council passed accounts . totalling $44,323.33, This sum_ includes general accounts in the amount of $32,500.04. In previous years, grant funding has allowed experienced, full-time excavators to work alongside students participating in the field school. Unfortunately, the project did not receive grant funding this year so only students in the field school and _ their instructors will par- ticipate this summer. Course activities begin with the con- struction of a _ grid system, dividing the nine-acre site into two- metre Knight Dr. two Squares. says students generally work within each _ section allowing many areas to be covered each day. Dr. Knight expects between 20 and 25 students will register in the course. Many are expected to be teachers living in the Orillia area. Archaeology students from Laurier can also fulfill their field study requirements during these summer courses.
