Officially, those people who must take the course, are defined as the people who do not meet the required qualifications to purchase an Ontario licence to hunt, or to take an Ontario Hunting Licence Examination, and were born after the 31st day of December of 1954. Completion of the course qualifies the person to write the exam for an Ontario Hunting Licence. Three specific categories of people are required to write the exam. First of all, if you were born before Dec. 31 1954, and are a first-time hunter, or are unable to qualify for the purchase of an Ontario licence to hunt, then you must write the examination. Next, if you can prove you have taken and completed the Hunter Safety Training program after Jan. 1, 1968, then you are eligible to write the exam. % Lastly, if you were born after Dec. 31, 1954, then you must complete the Hunter Training Program, and take the exam. Also, if you are any age, and fail the examination for an Ontario hunting licence, you are required to take the Hunter Training Course. Cost of the Training Program varies from one municipality to another, but here it costs $23, which includes the $3 fee for the Ontario Hunters' Licence Examination. Although the successful completion of the training program and the examination qualifies a person for any hunting licence, some educators advocate the Ontario Small Game hunting licence. It is valid for a year, and allows the holder to hunt small game like Oe Ss oe es Ss es Ss ey THE VILLAGE LOCKSMITH BONDED & INSURED 303 MIDLAND AVENUE NO. 108 - MIDLAND, ONTARIO L4R 4N9 BUS. 526-4801 RES. 526-9671 'Sales, installation & Service O@ABLOY § Major SECURITY LOCKS SAFES ee el This coupon is worth 15% off the list price during the month Hunter Safety Training groundhogs and some birds (named on the licence). It is important to know what each specific hunting licence allows you to hunt, and to know what restrictions are set as to the dates for each licence. To be sure of what your licence allows you to do, check with the Ministry of Natural Resources. They produce a fine pamphlet entitled, "Summary of the Hunting Regulations"', and it illustrates exactly what, where, when, and how one can go about hunting in Ontario. By following regulations, and hunter etiquette, as well as safe firearm handling techniques, hunting can be a rewarding outdoors experience, along with a thrilling pursuit of game animals.
