< ~~. ee ee ee by Ron Johnson The Good News Courier is on the road again, to steal a phrase from Willie Nelson. Stretching 60 feet in length, not counting the four-wheel-drive vehicle used to pull the trailer, the Courier is a "'rolling bookstore' containing religious reading material, records, tapes, bibles, and souvenirs. There is a children's section, a French language section, a record and music section, and a fair-sized library of general religious books. Manning the Good News Courier is Barry Kentner, a Midlander whose wife runs Mar- tin's Christian Supply store in Edwards Village Square in downtown Midland. Kentner is_ planning on touring the northern regions of Ontario during the summer months. Previously, the Courier travelled Ontario's highways and byways only from July to September, focusing mainly on the various bible camps. This year, Kentner hopes to visit many of the municipalities in Northern Ontario by contacting the local churches ahead of time and then bringing the bookmobile to _ the towns. He hopes to be out among the people from April to October, depending on how the weather co-operates. Kentner hopes to at least cover his expenses while touring the land bringing God's word to - the population. The real reward comes not from the financial end of the business, but from the knowledge that he is Elmvale's plans for 8&3 by Reeve Ken Knox Taxes for the operation of the Village of Elmvale will not be increased for the year 1983. For the last seven years, the municipal mill rate has not been increased. It remains at: Commercial and business--17.23 _ mills, Residential--14.65 mills. In 1977, the municipal mill rate was 42.38 per cent of the total tax bill, but in 1982, it had fallen to 32.39 per cent of the total. Total cost to operate the Village for the year 1983 will be $386,657, with $251,203 being grants in lieu of taxes, provincial grants, sewer charges. With a 1982 surplus of $35,625, it leaves $126,117 to be raised by taxation. Some of the projects scheduled for this year are: 1.
