Midland Kiwanis Club reaches new targets by Paul Kirkup Despite hard times the Kiwanis Club of Midland experienced a very successful geen in 1982. The club raised a record amount of money through its many community _ projects. Most of the funds raised during 1982 have been spent on local com- munity projects. During 1982 the club increased its mem- bership from 19 to 22 Kiwanians. The Kiwanis Club meets' every Tuesday evening at the Highland at 6:30 p.m. and would be happy to invite prospective members to visit and enjoy the fellowship and enthusiasm of the Club. The writer, Paul Kirkup, president of the Midland Kiwanis Club, would like to thank all Chairmen and Club members for their hard work and cooperation for making 1982 a record breaking year. The Kiwanis Club raised $12,000 for the Easter Seal Campaign. The Midland Kiwanis Club is the _ local representative Club for the Easter Seal Society. Larry Atkinson, Vice President of the Kiwanis Club is also a director of the Easter Seal Society. Two fund raising events took place at Maple Valley. The Rideathon and _ the Snowarama collected over $9,000 for the Easter Seal Campaign. The Club also earned $2,500 at their Casino Night. The Club enjoyed 20 guest speakers during the year arranged by the Vice President Gary Priest. Through many of these guest speakers the Club find important channels and com- munity projects to. which the Kiwanis Club provides the necessary funds and manpower. With money raised, the local Kiwanis sponsored the Science Fair at Secondary School, the Midland Minor Lacrosse Team trip to the finals in Burnaby, British Columbia, and numerous children to attend the handicapped Summer Camp near Collingwood and other local camps. The Kiwanis also Purchased a Glucometer for the local Diabetes Association. The Kiwanis provided funds and manpower to many other worthwhile community projects in 1982.
