PLEASE CALL US Story or picture idea: 549-2012 8a.m.to 5p.m. Two key events set for our town in '83 WHEN YOU ARE both the warden of Simcoe County and also the reeve of Penetanguishene it helps when picking a site for both the warden's picnic in June and the warden's banquet in November. Both will be staged, according to Art Stewart, in Penetanguishene on June 17 and Nov. 18 respectively. Warden Stewart, the reeve of Penetanguishene, will no doubt be delighted in hosting these two events as should our town when they are held, since visitors from all over the county will be here to enjoy both functions. 60 years married LAST FRIDAY, we carried a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Lalonde of Fox Street, Penetanguishene. What made the photograph special was the fact the couple had just marked its 60th wedding anniversary just a few weeks before. It pleases us to no end to report on such a happy occasion. And if we may, we would like to add our own congratulations by recalling what Catherine Booth wrote to William, the founder of the Salvation Army, in 1852 when the couple was courting "Our hearts are now indeed one, so that disunion would be more bitter than death." Laval Dubeau can be proud of accomplishment FORTY YEARS' ago, Laval Dubeau joined' the Penetanguishene Fire Department. Since then, he has worked his way up the ladder, no pun intended, to where he is now the department's deputy fire chief. An even-tempered man, Laval Dubeau, has brought a great deal of professionalism to the department during the past four decades. We congratulate Laval on marking 40 years with PFD and hope his next 40 years with the department will be as rewarding and memorable. ILAP submission: top-notch IT IS UNDERSTOOD, more than 300 submissions have already been received by the federal government for Industrial and Labour Adjustment Program (ILAP) designations from across Canada. One of the best submissions, if not THE best, put forward to Hon. Edward Lumley, minister of industry, trade and commerce comes from this area, we've been told. After reading the document, we concur with those who have characterized it as a "'top notch submission." We feel the submission will stand on its own merits, and will bear fruit later this year, which is a tribute to those who worked hundreds of hours behind the scenes preparing it. As a job is created in manufac- turing and another job is created in the support and service sector, also when a manufacturing job disappears, so does a support or service sector job, says the joint committee.
