Bradford ready to face Georgian Bay champ by Ron Johnson Bradford Blues are ready and waiting for Penetanguishene Junior Kings. Blues, first-place finishers in the Mid- Ontario Junior C League, have disposed of Caledon and Orangeville in playoff action, and now await word of when to start the Ontario Junior C quarter-finals with the Georgian Bay Junior C League champions. After having an apparent powerhouse last year, and beating a quick exit in the opening round of the playoffs, Bradford Blues are out to gain a measure of revenge against the Junior C ranks this season. Blues had a tough seven game series with Caledon, winning by taking three wins on the road. They 'swept to a 4-0 win against Orangeville, and appear to be geared up now. Leading the Blues in the playoffs has been goaltender Doug Cook. The Ken Dryden-sized puckstopper has been unbeatable and un- conscious throughout the playoffs. Blues have three netminders on their roster, but Cook has played in every game in the postseason. Although Bradford boasts the Mid-Ontario loop's best defenceman in Mike Fines, in general this is the Blues' Achilles heel. Their play has been spotty and inconsistent. They will need to find some major improvements in this area if they are to be successful against Penetang's swarming offensive attack. Offensively, Bradford is led by league scoring champion and MVP Bruce Fallis. Fallis is a brilliant offensive player who controls the puck and the tempo of a game when he is on the ice. Downfall of Mr. Fallis is that he is sometimes found lacking in the areas of back- checking and team spirit. When he is on he and his linemates, Ed Madeley and John Yaremko, form a dangerous trio. When he plays without en- thusiasm, Bradford is in for a long night. In general, Blues like to play hockey by the rules, avoiding the rough stuff, and specializing in free-wheeling offensive hockey. On the surface, it appears that against the well-balanced attack and robust style of Penetang, Bradford Blues could be found lacking. When the two teams square off against each other on the ice, it may well bea different story. Kings played_Gravenhurst last night in the sixth gameof their best-of-seven at Penetang Arena. If Kings won, the Penetang-Bradford series will open Friday in Penetang. If the Gravenhurst series goes to a seventh game, the next round will open in Bradford Sunday.
