hg I OE OF ir Per eg oe I ee ee SR OTe, A a ee a a ee No upsets in Rec Hockey No upsets this week in Midland Recreational Hockey League action, as all three favoured teams won their games on Monday night at Centennial Arena. In the evening's opener, North Stars whipped Roadrunners 6- 2 to stretch their win- ning streak to 14 games. Harvey Benoit led the Stars with two third- period tallies, while singles went to Dave Miller, John Edwards, Jim Vaillancourt, and Ken Edgar. Rick Graham and Gord Paul scored the losers' goals. Game two saw Hebner's edge Per- formance with two late goals, 3-1. Jim Patchell, Brendan Crowley, and Wayne Miller scored for the Cabbies, and Joe Gagnon scored for the Performers. Both Hebner's Matt Sonser and Per- formance's John Gignac were strong in their respective nets. In the finale -of Monday's action, first place Olympia Sports dumped cellar-dwelling Top Hat Amusements 7- Ve Andy Zurawski and Andy Seeman scored a pair of goals each to lead Olympia. Single goal scorers for the winners were Bob Bray, Earl Cousineau, and Greg Beacock. Lone goalgetter for the amusing Top Hat- ters was John McGuire. Play resumes this Sunday morning with two games, and con- tinues with a full slate of action Monday night. Correction One of two meetings held at Ecole Secon- daire Le Caron on Jan. 31 was organized by a group of - Le Caron parents, not by the local French Language Advisory Committee. FLAC member Gilles Maurice, who chaired this meeting, was present as a parent and not as a representative of the FLAC. Last Saturday (Feb. 12) four of our gym- nasts from the recreational section of our club travelled to Toronto to compete in an Invitational Gymnastics Meet. Our girls did extremely well. Seven year old Tanya Kraus competed in the Tiny division. This is for girls under 8 years of age. She placed second in vault with a score of 8.7, fifth on the floor with 7.8 and sixth on the beam with ascore of 7.2. Her combined score gave her fourth position overall. We had three girls compete in the Cadet category (8 and 9 year olds). Tanya Kitay placed first on the beam (7.5) and first on the floor (7.8). As a resutl of her combined total score she placed 7th overall. Jehne Cote also did very well. She placed second on the floor with 7.7; third on the beam with 7.2; and fourth on the vault with a score of 7.9 Jehne managed to place sixth overall. Tanya Moreau earned herself a fourth place finish overall with a very respectable showing. She placed third on the beam with a 7.2 and third on the floor with a 7.6. As a result in her 8.1 in vault she finished second. It should be noted that there were well over 30 gymnasts in each category. With that in mind, we had an excellent showing. In the Cadet category our three girls placed fourth, sixth and seventh overall. On beam they placed first, and two girls were tied for third. In vault we had a second and a fourth and on the floor we managed to place first, second and third. As you can see we must be doing something right. According to coach Lori Moreau, this trip was an excellent experience for our young gymnasts. There was very little stress placed on the girls and the scores were posted only after the presentation of awards. She felt that there was a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere for the girls to compete in. Our entire coaching staff is very pleased and proud of these girls' efforts. We want to wish Jennifer Young and Jennifer Moreau the best of luck in their meet. These 2 gymnasts are travelling to Toronto this weekend to compete in the Argo category. SUMMER CAMP Many parents have been inquring about our summer camp. At this point in time it would appear that we will not be hosting one. If you have a desire to send your child to a camp I recommend "Canadette Sports Camp". It is conveniently located on the shores of Sparrow Lake in Muskoka. There are large clean lake-front cabins fully equipped with bunks, indoor conveniences and showers. The nutritionally-balanced meals are served in a home-style dining hall. There is a nurse on site and a doctor on call. This camp is recognized by the Ontario Camping Association and the Canadian and Ontario Gymnastics Federation. Their impressive list of staff include Marylea and Geoff Palmer-National Team Coaches and Directors of Xoces Eagles School of Gymnastics. Also they were the Olympic Team Coaches in 1980; World Team Coaches in 1981. A complete two-week programme costs $495.00 (tax not included).
