Who says fishing doesn't pay? Local angler Keith Burbidge sure won't agree with that statement. Burbidge topped the entries in the 1982 Molson Big Fish Contest for walleye. But, that wasn't good enough for the local wand waver. His 20 lb. 15 ounce walleye also set a new record for the Molson Big Fish contest and by doing so Burbidge picks up a brand new 60 Hp. Around high noon (not the best time of the day for walleye) the prize catch could not resist the gold rebel offered by Burbidge. Within seconds, the Midland record breaker knew he had more than a bass at the end of his line. The ten pound test Stren line was put to the test as nearly twenty-one pounds of battling walleye fought for freedom. But, as Burbidge put it,"good equipment is the key to success when fishing. Burbidge's rooms are covered with mounted fish, much to the dismay of Mary Kaye, his wife, who has to dust them. Knowing him, Mary Kaye will have one more item to dust off next year--the 60 hp Evinrude compliments of the Molson Big Fish Contest, while her husband attempts to set more records in the 1983 season. With 24 years under their belt, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters received more entries this year than any previous year for the fishing contest. The travel com- pensation fund was set up under provincial legislation in 1975. The board is composed government and one public representative.
