Obituaries Bessie Cowan St. Paul's United Church, Midland, was the scene on Dec. 20, 1982, of the funeral service for the late Bessie Madill Cowan of 400 Mildred Street, Midland. Francis Cook, Ralph G. Gillingham and George E. Cowan, her brother-in-law, officiated. Interment in Midland. The former Bessie Hillen was killed in a traffic accident at the intersection of Mildred Street and Yonge Street on Dec. 16. She was 75 years old. She is survived by her husband, Ken Cowan, her daughters Carol (Mrs. Norman Jamieson) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Elizabeth (Mrs. Ron Rogers) of Thornhill, also her brothers Stanley of Seaforth and Harvey of. Kingston and her sister Edith Dunlop of Seaforth. She had four grandchildren. The native of McKillop Township, north of Seaforth, was the daughter of Calvin and Margaret Hillen. The graduate of teachers college in Stratford was active in young people's organizations and community activities. After her marriage to Ken Cowan on her home farm in Winthrop, Ont., she lived on Christian Island from 1938 to 1943. Her Ojibway name, Non-e-Gooz-Qua, or Contented Lady, was given to her by her Christian Island friends. She lived in Midland from 1943 until her death. Bessie Cowan was active in church ac- tivities and did some school teaching while she lived on Christian Island. Later she did some fulltime teaching in Midland public schools, considerable kindergarden teaching. She was a former Primary Sunday School Superintendent at St. Paul's United Church, a member of the United Church Women, church pianist, and a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of St. Paul's Church. She was a member of the Midland Hor- ticultural Society. Her honourary pallbearers were Arnold Tippin, Stan Dane, Alex Widmeyer, Bryson McQuirter, Sr., Tim Nesbitt, Roy Shakell, Hans Henzelt, all of Midland, Lyall Thorpe of Port MeNicoll, and Brice MacArthur of Wyebridge. Her ushers' were Gordon McLean, Gunter Freund, Clinton Truax and Ed Collins, all of Midland. A special service was held by her Christian Island friends on Dec. 20 in St. Paul's United Church. Francis Sandy officiated. At the 2 p.m. service a special choir number was_ provided by the St. Paul's choir. Her __ brother-in-law, George E. Cowan, sang the solo Beyond the Sunset. Alma Wood Alma Mary Wood, of 559 King Street, Midland, died suddenly in Huronia District Hospital on Dec. 16, 1982. The former Alma Miller was 77. The Flos Township native is survived by her daughter, Catharine Lediard, four grand- children and four great grandchildren. Armin E. Wood, her husband, predeceased her. Alma Wood was married in the Hillsdale Methodist Church on Nov. 11, 1924. She had been retired for 17 years. Alma Wood was a member of the United Church, Waverley, congregation. She also belonged to the Lady Parkhill Lodge, Crystal Chapter, Midland, and Rebekah Lodge, Midland, and the Progressive Conser- vative Party. Her parents were John and Sarah Miller. Rev. Locke officiated at the funeral service held Dec. 20 in Nicholls Funeral Home. _Inter- ment in Waverley United Cemetery. Mary Beausoleil St. Ann's Memorial Church was the scene of a funeral mass for the late Mary Beausoleil of Highland Point on Dec. 17, 1982. Fr. Richard Jacobsen officiated. Interment in the spring in St. Ann's Cemetery, Penetanguishene. Mrs. Beausoleil, late of the Georgian Manor in Penetanguishene, died Dec. Loe in Penetanguishene General Hospital, following a_ lengthy illness. She was 80 years of age. The former Mary Laramee lived most of her life at Highland Point. Her sons William of Toronto, James of Lachine, Que., and Alex of Penetanguishene, and her daughters Marie (Mrs. Herb Dusome), Germaine (Mrs. Dennis Reid), Agnes (Mrs. Bill Puddicombe), Annette (Mrs. Medore Duval) and Anne Beausoleil, all of Penetanguishene, survive her, as do her brothers Edgere and Theophile, and _ her sisters Ann (Mrs. Hector Bottineau) and Margaret (Mrs. Dollard Miron), all from Penetanguishene. She had 20 grandchildren and 10 great grand- children. Her husband, John Beausoleil, her parents Paul Laramee and Almina Desjardins, and her sisters Philomene (Mrs. Louis Bottineau) and Delima Rose (Mrs. Archie Perrault) predeceased her. Her pallbearers were James Beausoleil, Jack Dusome, Bill Pud- dicombe Jr., John Dumais, Roger Reid, and Mark Beausoleil. Alda Doyle was born in, and lived all of her limere ion Penetanguishene. The former Alda Lapensee is survived by her husband, Leo Doyle, her son Larry of Toronto, her daughter Linda (Mrs. Rene Pauze) of Stroud, and her mother, Mrs. Alice Lar pe mas, € je of Penetanguishene, also her brothers Oliver of Midland and Bernard of Toronto, and her sisters Flora (Mrs. Edgar Ste. Croix), Mrs. Natalie Titus, Exilda (Mrs. Louis Duval) and Irene (Mrs. Allan Bidan), all of Penetanguishene. She had four grandchildren. Her father, Theophile Lapensee, predeceased her. Father Louis Dignard officated at her funeral mass, held Dec. 16 in St. Ann's Memorial Church. Spring in- terment in St. Ann's Cemetery. Doug Bidan, Gary St. Croix, Paul Bidan, Michael Lapensee, Richard Lapensee, and David Duval were her pallbearers. Emily Swinson A funeral service for the late Emily Elizabeth Swinson of Midland was held in Nicholls Funeral Home on Dec. 4, 1982. Rev. J. L. Self and Dr. Paul Brown officiated. Interment later in Lakeview Cemetery, Midland. The native of London, England, the former Emily Lowe, died Dec. 1 in Huronia District Hospital at age 86. Her son Kenneth of Oshawa and her daughters Barbara Fincham of Los Angeles, Calif., and Margaret of Midland survive her. She had two grandchildren. Emily Swinson married her late husband, Donald Harold Swinson, in London, England, on April 19, 1919. She later came to Midland, where she was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Her parents were Ernest and Isabella Lowe. Laurie Thomas of Montreal, Gordon Moody of Midland, David Swinson of Toronto, her grandson, and Pearson Armstrong of Toronto were her gy pallbearers. e Ca Ron Jones The death occurred on Dec. 11, 1982, in Huronia District Hospital, of Ron E. Jones of Concession 2, Tay Township. He was 44 years of age. His wife, Elaine Lougheed, his' sons Andrew and Warren, and his daughters Lee Anne and Colleen, all at home, survive him, as do his brothers Brian of RR 1, Midland, Dean of Mississauga, and Jack of Agincourt, and his sisters Shirley (Mrs. Robert Riley) of Cookstown and Mary (Mrs. Victor Cambell) of Wyevale. Rev. Wesley Oake officiated at the funeral service held in Nicholls funeral Home on Dec. 14. Interment in Vasey Union Cemetery, The death occurred in Penetanguishene General Hospital, on Dec. 19, 1982, of 49 Church Street, Penetanguishene, _re- sident Joseph Dupuis. He died at age 65 after a WY) GUARD YOUR FAAS MEALTH AND BUOGET The late Ron Jones was the son of Nelson Jones and Margaret Irene Elliott and lived on the farm where he was born. The steward and trustee of Ebenezer United Chureh was a former second vice- president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and a representative of the North Simcoe Region to the OFA. The late Ron Jones was a onetime member of Tay Township Council and of the former St. Andrew's Hospital Board. His pallbearers were Murray Jones, David Jones, Jim Elliott, Doug Therault, Allan Mosley and Bob Widdes. Gladys Bellisle A native of Tiny Township and a lifelong resident of Penetanguishene, Gladys Bellisle, died in Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, on Dec. 17, 1982. The 145A Main Street resident was 63 years of age. Her illness was brief. Gladys' Bellisle worked for the past 11 years at Pen- tanguishene's Georgian Manor. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Ann's and of -the Catholic Women's League. St. Ann's Memorial Church was the scene on Dec. 20 of a funeral mass, officiated at by Fr. Gordon Davies. Interment in the spring in St. Ann's Cemetery. The former Gladys Moreau is survived By her sons Roy of Barrie and Neil of Collingwood, her daughter Ruth Joseph Dupuis lengthy illness. Born in Beaverstone, Ont., Joseph Dupuis lived for most of his life in Toronto and the last 10 years in Penetanguishene. The veteran of the Second World War_ served overseas. His parents were Napoleon Dupuis and Pamela Gravel. Mr. Dupuis was cremated. There was no service, at his request. a" )
